Kate Winslet debunked rumors that there will be a The Holiday sequel, although she admitted that it would be a good idea to have one. The actress was on a press run for her new film Lee, where she stars as Elizabeth "Lee" Miller, which debuted in movie theaters on September 2024.
However, during her interview with Deadline on Friday, December 20, the topic of The Holiday came up. It was because Kate Winslet's The Holiday co-star, Jude Law, caused a stir last week after temporarily re-enacting one of his character's bit in the movie where he tried to act as 'Mr. Napkin Head.'
At the time, Law was having lunch with the movie's writer and director, Nancy Meyers, who asked him if there was going to be a sequel. The actor answered by putting his napkin on his head, the same thing his character in the film did. The clip made waves on social media, but according to Kate Winslet during her Deadline interview, it was only a rumor, at least for her part. She said:
"Honestly, it's never come up. I promise you."
The film came out in 2006, starring Winslet as Iris and Cameron Diaz as Amanda, who exchange their English countryside cottage (Iris's home) and luxurious LA estate (Amanda's home). Amanda, while staying in Iris's house, meets Iris's widowed brother Graham, played by Law, and they fall in love. Meanwhile, Iris falls for Jack Black's Miles in the movie.

Kate Winslet admits it won't be a bad idea to get The Holiday sequel
While Kate Winslet admitted that there wasn't any conversation about making The Holiday sequel, despite the online chatter, she thinks it won't be a bad idea if there ever is one in the works. The actress said that she is a bit surprised that the project has never come up in a conversation, saying:
"Actually, I suppose, I've been quite surprised that it never came up."
She added that the movie had a great premise that could work well for a sequel, saying:
"...Because it's the kind of film that probably would lend itself quite well to a sequel, but it has honestly never come up."
As for Kate Winslet co-stars, Jude Law previously said that he would be open to doing a sequel, but there's a catch. He told Comicbook in a sit-down interview on December 2 that conversations about that project have come up, but any sequel lies in Nancy Meyers' hands. He said:
"That conversation comes up, 'Is there an idea?' But that all lands in Nancy Meyers' lap. I'm sure if it was, you know, she's pretty meticulous. So she would only do it if it was a really robust idea and then it would be whether the four of us would come back."
That said, if there ever was a sequel in the future, one of the production's main works would be rebuilding the iconic English countryside cottage because, according to Jude Law, it doesn't exist in real life. During his interview with BBC Radio 2's The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, via Deadline on November 27, he revealed that the iconic cottage was a fake.
