The Avengers star Jeremy Renner recently opened up about his near-fatal snowplow accident, his road to recovery, and how the traumatic experience has changed his outlook in life. Last year, the Hawkeye star was rushed to the hospital after he was run over in a freak accident by his seven-tone snowplow while clearing snow from his neighbors' driveways. He broke over 30 bones and underwent several surgeries to treat his injuries and the actor has been focused on recovery ever since.

In an interview with People, Renner opened up about his recovery journey, sharing that he was “barely walking.” But, ten months into his recovery, the actor was already running, something he’d also shared in an Instagram post marking this feat.

The actor also mentioned that he’s sprinted “a couple of times” along the driveway after realizing that he could do it.

Jeremy Renner spoke about relearning how to run after his accident:

“For me, it means so much because to go from a wheelchair and limping around with the cane and [being] told you’re never going to walk right again and you’re never going to run again, it was pretty hopeful for me. It gave me an ally.”

“I’m progressing” — Jeremy Renner shares more about his recovery journey

While Jeremy Renner admitted that his recovery after the freak accident will be “for the rest of [his] life,” the actor shared the news that he’s “progressing.” Knowing that he’s making strides, and the hope that he was improving serves as a “superpower or a fuel” for him, the actor said.

On what’s coming next for him, Renner mentioned:

“I’m progressing. I’m waiting for [Brooks Running] to get some spike tracks out after this, and [then] we’re sprinting.”

The Mayor of Kingstown star partnered with Brooks Running for their latest 'Let’s Run There' campaign after mentioning that the shoe brand gave him new sneakers after the accident. He said that he wore them around the house during his recovery until he felt ready to use them.

Besides his physical recovery, Jeremy Renner is also making significant strides behind the scenes of his crime thriller show Mayor of Kingstown for Paramount Plus. Over a year after the accident, the star is starting to go back to where he once was while on set, even performing “violent” stunts for the show’s upcoming third season.

Talking about the same, the actor shared:

“The stunt work, it was pretty violent—and surprising that I was even able to attempt it, for me personally. I wasn’t sure I was gonna be capable of it, but in the first episode, we were surprised, no injuries.”

Mayor of Kingstown premiered in 2021 and its first two seasons are available for streaming on Paramount Plus. Its upcoming third season is slated to air on Sunday, June 2, 2024, also exclusively on Paramount Plus.
