Actor and filmmaker George Clooney recently spoke to the press at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday, September 1, 2024, ahead of his much-awaited film Wolfs and applauded Joe Biden. Appreciating his opting out of the 2024 Presidential elections, and endorsing the current Vice President, Kamala Harris, Clooney said:
"I've never had to answer that question, so I suppose I'll do it here. The person who should be applauded is the president, who did the most selfless thing that anybody's done since George Washington. All the machinations that got us there, none of that's gonna be remembered and it shouldn't be.”
The Money Monster actor continued :
“What should be remembered is the selfless act of someone who. You know, it's very hard to let go of power. We know that. We've seen it all around the world. And for someone to say, 'I think there's a better way forward,' all the credit goes to him, and that's really the truth."
George Clooney’s statement applauding Joe Biden’s move came after the current President of the United States of America declared his dropping out of the 2024 Presidential race at the end of July 2024.
In a letter to the nation, he endorsed Kamala Harris in place of him as the Democratic nominee and claimed that it was “in the best interest” of his party and country to do so.
George Clooney’s appreciation for Joe Biden came after he wrote about the democratic party needing a new nominee: Details explored
George Clooney’s statement appreciating the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden came months after he sparked a controversy by sharing his thoughts on his op-ed for The New York Times in July.
The op-ed was titled “I Love Joe Biden, But We Need a New Nominee,” where George claimed that the party needed a new nominee. At the time, Clooney shared:
"We are not going to win in November with this president. On top of that, we won’t win the House, and we’re going to lose the Senate. This isn't only my opinion; this is the opinion of every senator and congress member and governor that I've spoken with in private. Every single one, irrespective of what he or she is saying publicly."
Furthermore, this is not the first time that George Clooney has appreciated Joe Biden’s move of opting out of the race, as he spoke to CNN in August and claimed that “President Biden has shown what true leadership is.” At the time, he also stated that he would do everything he can “to support Vice President Harris in her historic quest."
