Zoë Kravitz, the American actress known for her roles in Big Little Lies and High Fidelity, has recently stepped into the director’s shoes with her debut film Blink Twice.

During a recent interview with IndieWire, Zoë Kravitz shed light on the fact that while her motion picture does portray somewhat dismal perimeters of power and oppression of women, it’s not inspired by the life and deeds of Jeffrey Epstein. In response to these questions, she said,

"Yeah, and it’s all a metaphor. It’s not so literal. So that [Epstein] situation, that particular place and person, that documentary or whatever it was, came out not even halfway through writing [“Blink Twice”]"

Zoë Kravitz explains that Blink Twice draws from metaphorical themes

Zoë Kravitz started working on Blink Twice in 2017 after Big Little Lies and the #MeToo movement had become very important around that time. The movie is a story about a woman called Frida, played by Naomi Ackie, who receives a proposal from a billionaire, Slater King, played by Channing Tatum.

In an interview with IndieWire, Zoë Kravitz denied the notion that her movie is based on Epstein or any other characters from the real world. She said people relate that to certain things, but that is not how it was conceived previously.

It took seven years of effort from Kravitz to get the green light for Blink Twice. She continued to write the story without a plan, for the sole purpose of writing it and voicing her opinions and feelings.

“I didn’t have a plan”, she admitted to IndieWire. “I started writing the story because I just wanted to write it, and I felt the emotion behind it.”

At first, Zoë Kravitz did not know she was writing a script. She just wanted to get it done with and feel the emotion of the story.

"Once it’s finished, you can understand it," she remarked, explaining how she realized most of the metaphors and the thematic layers she employed in it afterward.

Zoë Kravitz identified with the plot and did not want to compromise on it or give it up. She said,

“I was very protective over it.”

The new project is set to be released by Amazon MGM Studios.

Throughout the creation of Blink Twice, Kravitz worked with the co-writer E.T. Feigenbaum, whom she had met through friends in Brooklyn. The two would write for hours and share ideas on the plot of the story. According to Kravitz, she enjoyed the insights and opinions that Feigenbaum provided to the project.

Zoë Kravitz also talked about casting and the unsung efforts of her team members, particularly Channing Tatum, whom she not only worked with as an actor on set but also partnered as a producer for the film. Tatum’s experience and his latest project as a director were beneficial in assessing and overcoming most of the issues in filming.

“He was able to anticipate problems before they occurred because of his experience”, Kravitz said while complimenting Tatum for maintaining the integrity of the story.

Blink Twice is set to hit theaters on the 23rd of August and promises to be a new movie experience, that is relevant in the contemporary world.
