After months of divorce speculations, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s whirlwind romance finally sees its end, for a second time. Lopez filed for the annulment of her marriage to Ben with the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, August 20, as reported by TMZ.
The former couple previously went through betrothal in 2002, but broke it off in 2004. Although they finally walked down the aisle 20 years later in 2022, things took a turn yet again. Words about trouble in paradise were in the air for months already, before JLo seemingly confirmed the rumors with Tuesday’s filing.
One of the signs that fans have been bringing up since the news broke out, is a video from May 2023. When Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez walked up to their car, the actor opened the door for her to get in, and then slammed it shut dramatically with apparent nonchalance, before moving to sit on his side of the vehicle. Minutes prior, the pair was seen walking down the streets in Santa Monica holding hands.
This incident stood out the most among many other gestures that had fueled the rumors. When the clip surfaced online in May 2023, many pointed out Ben Affleck looked out of sorts, worn out, and was probably disinterested in being there.
Commenting under The Shade Room's post on the pair's divorce, one Instagram user wrote the car door slamming incident confirmed for them that Ben and Lopez were nearing the end of their relationship.
Some were upset over the duo ending their marriage. Some speculated what could have led to the split.
A few others suggested instead of getting married, Jennifer Lopez should just be herself for a while, or maybe date, and travel.
One person mentioned JLo's ex-husband, Marc Anthony, joking they predicted the two of them would get back together before Christmas.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are finally calling it quits after two years of marriage
Lopez filed for divorce on the second anniversary of her Georgia wedding ceremony with Ben Affleck. They officially got married in secret in July 2022, but a later ceremony was held on August 20, in the presence of their family. However, per court documents, the couple officially separated on April 26.
Weeks before the official divorce filings, it was reported that their Beverly Hills residence was up for sale. Reports also emerged of the duo living separately and leading their lives detached from each other.
According to court documents, JLo’s filing did not mention a prenup. The 55-year-old actress reportedly did not seek any spousal support from Ben Affleck, and vice versa.
