The first two Knives Out films have included a vast ensemble cast, which adds to the thrill behind the whodunit style of storytelling. Director Rian Johnson announced the title of the upcoming Knives Out film through a post on X on Friday, May 24, 2024. He wrote on X:
"The next Benoit Blanc mystery, the follow-up to Knives Out and Glass Onion, is called Wake Up Dead Man."
Mila Kunis is the latest suspect to join Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
Knives Out has become one of the most popular whodunit series ever since the release of the first film in 2019. Mila Kunis is added to what might be a long list of cast members for the third installment of the film. Mila Kunis was last seen in the 2022 mystery-thriller film Luckiest Girl Alive and also made a special appearance in That 90s Show.
Daniel Craig's Detective Benoit Blanc is the only constant throughout the previous installments and the upcoming one too. The quirky and eccentric detective finds himself as an observer in the Knives Out films released to date, as he scans through a rather long list of suspects for a crime.
Various news sources earlier reported that Josh O'Connor (known for Challengers) and Cailee Spaeny (known for Priscillia) were also announced along with Andrew Scott, as new additions to the film. Additionally, the director Rian Johnson also announced on X that Jeremy Renner (known for Avengers) is going to be a part of the upcoming film too.
Other new additions to the cast include veteran actress Glenn Close (known for 101 Dalmatians and Fatal Attraction) and Emmy Award-winner Kerry Washington (known for Scandal).
The plot for Wake up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery has been kept under wraps for now, as the production team is still in the process of sizing up all the potential suspects for Benoit Blanc to investigate.
Rian Johnson announced the commencement of production for Wake up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery on May 24, 2024, through an X post. The post read:
"We’re about to go into production on the 3rd one, and I’m very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it’s going."
The first installment of the film was released by Lionsgate Films, and the resounding success resulted in Netflix taking over the distribution rights too. However, like Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, even the third installment will be released across theaters before being available for streaming on Netflix.
The release date for Knives Out 3 has not been announced yet.
