Wicked, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, is in the news again for releasing the new versions of two of its popular soundtracks, Popular and Defying Gravity, on December 6.

Initially, the songs were released as the movie’s version and with the dialogues. However, the new versions were released without any dialogue. Once the news went viral, netizens took to X and under @PopCrave’s tweet to react to the same.

One even asked if the filmmakers could do the same to another song of the movie, The Wizard and I.

“Uhm modify The Wizard and I too??,” suggested one user.

Others also reacted similarly. Some asked if they would do it to all other soundtracks of the movie, whereas another one asked the showmakers to save the dialogue for the movie.

“Wait, are they adding all the other sound effects? Cuz that's what I really want,” wrote one user.
“We will be streaming on all devices,” commented another netizen.
“Good, we don’t need the dialogue… Save that for the film,” another netizens said.

Others also preached to the choir. Many netizens suggested other songs from the movie that seemingly needed editing. Some said that No One Mourns the Wicked needs to be released “without the flashback part,” while another said that Dancing Through Life needs the same treatment.

“And what about the Spanish versions!!!!!”, asked one.
“We need No One Mourns the Wicked without the flashback part”, suggested one X user.
“OMG WE WON WHERE IS DANCING THROUGH LIFE WITHOUT INSUFFERABLE NESSA AND BOQ THO???” questioned another one.

Recently, the Wicked sound makers released two new versions of the songs, Popular and Defying Gravity, without the dialogue from the movie. The tracks were also shortened as Ariana Grande's Popular has been cut from 4:01 to 2:53, while Cynthia Erivo's Defying Gravity has been trimmed from 7:39 to 3:33.

In the original version of Defying Gravity, Grande's character Glinda could be heard saying:

“Why can you stay calm for once? Instead of flying off the handle, I hope you're happy… you hurt your cause forever. I hope you think you're clever…”

Then Elphaba, Erivo's character, could be heard saying:

“I hope you are proud how you would grovel in submission to feed your own ambition… So do I, can't imagine how… I hope you're happy…”

Glinda then suggested:

“Just listen to me.. Just say you're sorry… You can still be with the wizard.”

On the other hand, Popular starts with Glinda saying to Elphaba:

“Elphe, now that we're friends, I've decided to make you my new project… That's what makes me so nice. Whenever I see someone less fortunate than I… my tender heart tends to start to bleed. And when someone needs a makeover, I simply have to take over…. Don't worry, I'm determined to succeed… Follow my needs…”

However, the new versions do not contain these dialogues.

In Wicked's Defying Gravity, Elphaba learns that The Wizard of Oz is not the hero she had initially thought he was. Elphaba commits to fight the Wizard and his evil schemes against the Animals of Oz, even though Glinda tries to talk her out of it. She sings of wanting to live unrestricted by the boundaries other people have established for her.

On the other hand, the song Popular is about Glinda's efforts to boost Elphaba's popularity, who is her roommate. Glinda tries to impose the conventional notions of popularity and beauty on Elphaba, the future evil Wicked Witch of the West, to cement their newfound friendship.

In other news, Wicked Part 2 has already been announced. It will continue where Part One left off after Elphaba and Glinda learn that the Wizard is a fraud and Elphaba is announced as the new enemy of the Ozark people.

The events leading up to The Wizard of Oz will be covered in detail in Part Two, which takes place a few years after the first film's events. It will show how Glinda changes into the Good Witch and how Elphaba eventually turns into the Wicked Witch of the West.
