Christina Fulton, the mother of Nicolas Cage's son Weston Cage Coppola, has claimed that their son "desperately" needs help. Fulton was at a downtown Los Angeles courthouse on Wednesday, July 31, for the hearing of her son's assault charges, where she was the supposed victim.
As Weston pleaded not guilty to assaulting his mother with a deadly weapon, Fulton spoke to the US Sun after court, saying:
"The absence of remorse is profoundly painful for me as both a mother and a victim. I pray that he gets the mental help he desperately needs."
The 33-year-old actor and heavy metal musician was arrested earlier this month after he allegedly assaulted his mother in April. A statement from LAPD noted that authorities responded after a call that the young action and musician "punched two victims multiple times" and caused injuries.
The second victim of the assault wasn't named, but Weston Cage was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. That said, he was later released from jail on a $150,000 bail, which the Oscar-winning Nicolas Cage reportedly paid.
Nicolas Cage's ex-wife Christina Fulton shared details of the alleged assault shortly after Weston's arrest
A day after Nicolas Cage's son, Weston Cage, was brought into custody after an alleged physical assault, on July 11, Christina Fulton shared a statement to People. It read:
"On April 28th, 2024, around 5:30 p.m., I received urgent messages from friends of my son, Weston Cage, regarding his deteriorating mental state, urging me to come help."
Fulton recalled the time when she arrived to support her son, saying that she was trying to "console him." However, he was already in a "manic rage." Nicolas Cage's ex-wife added:
"Within minutes, I was brutally assaulted and sustained serious injuries. Despite my desperate pleas to the responding police officers to detain him for a mental-health evaluation, the police officers refused my request."
The LAPD also confirmed that the arrest made was directly related to the April 28 incident, in which Weston and his estranged mother got into a verbal fight at her LA residence before it turned physical.
Christina Fulton also expressed her concern about her son's well-being in the same statement.
Fulton slammed claims about a verbal scuffle in a separate statement to People, saying that she and Weston didn't have any argument before the incident.
She famously blamed her ex-husband Nicolas Cage in 2011 for her son's "downward spiral." Fulton told CNN in June 2011 that she didn't want her son in the care of the award-winning actor, saying that "it's his dad's fault that he's [Weston] is in the hospital" for a psychiatric hold.
