Park Chan-wook's legendary Korean thriller, Oldboy, which also remains one of the most widely renowned Korean films in the international market, is now reportedly set to get a TV adaptation from Lionsgate Television. While the original film was remade in English in 2013 with Elizabeth Olsen, Josh Brolin, and others in pivotal roles, it was not well-received by fans and critics.
However, this time, things may be different as the veteran Park Chan-wook is attached to the project himself, as per Variety. He is reportedly producing the project with his producing partner, Syd Lim while Courtney Mock and Tara Joshi will oversee the project for Lionsgate Television.
The original title was released in 2003 and soon became one of the best films of the decade. It has won several awards and boasts a massive fanbase around the globe.

They mentioned that the company was over the moon to partner with him to bring "his cinematic masterpiece to the television screen."
"This series adaptation of Oldboy will feature the raw emotional power, iconic fight scenes and visceral style that made the film a classic," Herbst said.
Park Chan-wook also expressed his excitement about joining the project, and as per Deadline, said:
"Lionsgate Television shares my creative vision for bringing Oldboy into the world of television. I look forward to working with a studio whose brand stands for bold, original and risk-taking storytelling."
What is Oldboy all about?
Considered one of the greatest thrillers of all time, the 2003 South Korean action film was directed and co-written by Park Chan-wook. It is loosely based on a Japanese manga of the same name but is renowned for its darker approach to the material.
It follows Oh Dae-su (Choi Min-sik), who is held in a mysterious prison for 15 years with no apparent reason or explanation. The title is all about him seeking revenge as he gets out of the cell and tries to find his captors. However, he soon finds himself trapped in a massive conspiracy that goes far beyond what meets the eye.
The official synopsis for the film as per IMDb reads:
"After being kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years, Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must track down his captor in five days."
Apart from Choi Min-sik, the original film also stars Yoo Ji-tae, Kang Hye-jung, Ji Dae-han, and Kim Byeong-ok, among others.
In the 2013 English remake, Josh Brolin played the role of the man who was captured.
Further information on the series adaptation of the film is currently awaited.
