In an interview with Variety in the premiere of her upcoming film, Babygirl, Nicole Kidman weighed in on whether the erotic thriller can be considered a stereotypical Christmas film. Hollywood is known for releasing typical Christmas movies during the holiday season that are often set during the December month of celebrations.

Given that Babygirl is releasing on Christmas, Kidman responded to the question and said:

"Let's hope so. Somebody thinks it is… A24 is very subversive. They seem to go against the grain always, so maybe [Christmas] is the right time.”

Kidman's co-star, Harris Dickinson, however, agreed that the film is a Christmas movie. Dickinson added that he did not know the film would turn out to be one and released on December 25, but it eventually did.

The director of Babygirl, Halina Reijn, said it was "definitely" a Christmas movie as far as she is concerned. The film has "Christmas songs" and "Christmas trees" in the scenes although the director claimed one cannot watch the film with everyone. However, she added that many couples have been "inspired" after watching the film, which is expected to explore ideas of s*xuality and self.

Nicole Kidman plays the leading role in Babygirl as Roma, a CEO of a company who takes a big risk after beginning an affair with a much younger intern (Harris Dickinson). Speaking to Vanity Fair about her character in the film, she said:

“I felt very exposed as an actor, as a woman, as a human being. I’ve made some films that are pretty exposing, but not like this.”

Nicole Kidman also weighed in on her pairing with Harris Dickinson in the film and said:

“There is an ease that comes and that’s really exciting. Antonio Banderas [who plays her character’s husband] as well, because it really is a triangle; I just was so lucky to have these men who were willing to come in and support the female protagonist primarily.”

Nicole Kidman won the Volpi Cup Award for Best Actress in the 2024 Venice International Film Festival for her performance in the upcoming film.
