Based on a series of children's books by Michael Bond, Paddington the Bear first graced the screens back in 2014. The adorable, bumbling character makes his way to London, where he was seen eventually finding a home with the Brown family in Windsor Gardens.

He then also finds his way to prison, but ends up proving his innocence and becoming a permanent part of the Brown family. The character is now set to return to screens with the third iteration of the series, titled Paddington in Peru.

The movie, set for release on November 8, 2024, in the UK, recently revealed its first trailer, which gives fans the first glimpse of what they can expect from the movie.

Paddington 3 sees our favorite bear attempt to return to his roots

Paddington 3 will only be released in the USA on January 17, 2025, and will be distributed by Sony via Colombia Pictures. Set years after the events of the second movie, Paddington 3 will see the bear attempt to return to his birthplace of Peru, where years ago he was sent by Lucy and Pastuzo when their home was under attack. He attempts to find his aunt, who is seen in the trailer residing at the Home for Retired Bears.

However, what begins as a potential homecoming sees Paddington being forced into another adventure. This time around, he has the Brown family alongside him, as both Henry and Mary Brown, played by Hugh Bonneville and Emily Mortimer, also accompany him to the tropical paradise. Regardless, while the trailer itself did not reveal a lot of details about the mystery itself, a number of new characters are set to be introduced to the film series.

This includes a guitar-playing nun played by the talented Olivia Colman. Antonio Banderas is also seen in the trailer and plays the role of Hunter Cabot. Ben Whishaw is set to return to voice the iconic bear, with the trailer also seeing the return of Mrs. Bird, played by Julie Walters.

Director Dougal Wilson, who has taken over the directorial duties from Paul King, who created the first two, has claimed that he is only extending the previous helmer’s vision. Speaking at the trailer launch, Wilson said the following about what fans can expect:

“The first film gave us a bit of information about where Paddington came from and how he found his home in London. The second story almost made him lose that home, but in doing so, he consolidated his community in London. For the third film, we thought it would be appropriate for him to return to Peru, but this time taking his London friends and community with him and have an adventure there, filling in some of the missing pieces.”

There is still a lot of time for the release, considering the movie comes to theaters in the USA in January 2025. Hence, further trailers can be expected to reveal a lot more about the plot of Paddington 3.

Regardless, its initial release will happen in the UK, which is slated to be on November 8, 2024.
