Hunter Schafer recently appeared for an interview on the podcast Call Her Daddy, where she opened up on her separation from Dominic Fike. The pair were romantically linked since 2022 and split last year in 2023. The duo had already worked together on the popular TV series Euphoria.
The actress revealed in her latest conversation that infidelity was a reason behind their separation, and she addressed the same by saying:
"Part of why the relationship ended is because I got cheated on for the first time. It's part of my truth, but that fundamentally changed me as a person."
Hunter Schafer stated that her breakup with Fike changed a lot of things in her life. She said she might prefer to keep the details of her relationship hidden from public view from now onwards. She mentioned that her last relationship was her "first public relationship" and continued:
"I don't know if I'll ever do that again. At some point, when you're doing it, it gets just too hard. I mean, you can try to hide, but, like, whatever. But I've also come to this point just with fame in general where people are gonna say what they're gonna say, and I really don't give a sh*t."
Notably, she was previously in a relationship with Rosalia in 2019, and the romance lasted for five months.
Hunter Schafer described her split from Dominic Fike as one of the "cleaner breakups" she had over the years
While speaking to host Alex Cooper on the podcast, Hunter said that she and Fike decided to split in July last year after realizing they were not perfect for each other. Schafer said it was a mutual decision and added:
"And it was one of the cleaner breakups I've had, like we both recognize that this is not working, and we can't do this. We gotta go our own separate ways. It was a clean parting, and he has a lot to work on, and I also have a lot to work on."
Hunter Schafer mentioned that everything was fine between her and Dominic Fike, except certain things in their personalities created problems in the relationship. Schafer said the breakup was hard since they had a lot of love for each other.
She even described Fike as a "special person" and appreciated that he accepted her despite knowing her sexual identity. She continued:
"What was so amazing about my ex-boyfriend was from the get-go, he saw me exactly for who I was, which was amazing."
Furthermore, Hunter Schafer recalled her previous relationship by saying she was satisfied to have a lot of trans people in her life, adding that there are a few who don't know anything about "how to engage with trans people." She further stated:
"They don't have the lens that allows them to see whatever person as the gender that they are presenting as of whatever. And this is a lens that you acquire as you spend more time with trans people."
Hunter Schafer has two projects in her upcoming lineup. It starts with the melodrama film Mother Mary, followed by the science fiction series Blade Runner 2099. The latter will be available on Amazon Prime Video, and the release dates for both projects are yet to be confirmed.
