Rapper Tyler, the Creator is set to star in A24's Marty Supreme opposite Hollywood stars Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow. The upcoming sports film will be the American rapper's first feature film as an actor and Paltrow's first onscreen feature role since Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
While the specifics of the upcoming movie remain under wraps, it's reportedly a fictional dramatization of the life of professional ping pong player Marty Reisman. For the unversed, Reisman started his career as a hustler before he won 22 major ping pong titles between 1946 and 2002 and became the world champion.
Details are scarce surrounding Marty Supreme, but it's known that Uncut Gems' Josh Safdie will direct the project. Safdie, Chalamet, A24, Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, and Ronald Bronstein will produce the movie.
Tyler, the Creator, Chalamet, and Paltrow have been confirmed as official cast members of Marty Supreme, as per Variety. Besides the Avengers and Iron Man movies, Paltrow has previously starred in Shakespeare in Love and Netflix's The Politician. Meanwhile, Chalamet made a name for himself with films like Wonka, Dune, and Call Me By Your Name. As for Tyler, the Creator, he's best known for his music career and for winning the Best Rap Album award at the Grammys twice.
Tyler, the Creator adds Marty Supreme to his growing acting credits
Six years after Tyler, the Creator name-dropped Timothée Chalamet in his song Okra, where he sang "Tell Tim Chalamet to come get at me," they will be working on a new movie. While the American rapper is best known for his music career, Marty Supreme isn't his first acting gig.
He's appeared in a handful of shows and TV films in minor and guest-starring roles. He voiced Korblox Deathspeaker in the 2014 adventure comedy Roblox: The Movie. In 2022, he played Stone Block #3972 in The Sinister SMP. Tyler, the Creator was also a regular cast of Loiter Squad, a live-action comedy sketch show that aired from 2012 to 2014 on Adult Swim. He voiced Liborg in Axe Cop, an adult animated TV series based on the webcomic of the same name.
His other acting gigs in television include playing Cornell for two episodes in Kidding and episodic voice roles in Uncle Grandpa, Big Mouth, and Doug and Dog. The rapper also made a surprise appearance alongside Mindy Kaling in The Mindy Project in January 2013. In the episode, Tyler, the Creator appeared as the opening act at a rap showcase where he urged the crowd to "Always recycle, okay? Plastic and paper. We need to save our environment. See you guys later!"
He also co-created the sitcom The Jellies! with Lionel Boyce. It's an adult animated comedy series about a human boy who got adopted by a family of jellyfish. The show ran for two seasons from 2017 to 2019 on Adult Swim.
