Shortly after admitting to his plan to relocate to Spain, Richard Gere sold his Connecticut mansion for $10.75 million. The sale comes two years after the Pretty Woman star and his wife, Alejandra Silva, bought the New Canaan residence from the Simon and Garfunkel singer Paul Simon for $10.8 million.

While Gere suffered a loss of $50,000 from the sale, offloading the expansive property was simply one of the things on their must-do list before moving to Spain to be closer to his wife's family.

Before they planned to relocate to Spain, Richard Gere and Alejandra Silva planned to turn their property into a low-impact, private farm at some point. It's a 32-acre property with a 1938 house that has six bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a separate 3-bedroom cottage for guests, and other amenities like a pool and some gardens.

Per the Sotheby's listing of the property, aka the Brookwood estate, it has an "open rolling landscape, woodland trails, rock rimmed brook, natural pond, and tumbling waterfall" and other "period details."

The Brookwood Lane property reportedly sold late in October 2024, per the New Canaan Advertising, with the buyer listed as Brookwood Hills, LLC, which is registered to SBP Homes' James Hoffman.

Richard Gere opened up about wanting to leave the US for Spain ahead of his New Canaan residence's sale

Since Richard Gere married Alejandra Silva in 2018, their life has been based in New York. However, that is ending soon as the couple has decided to move from the US to Silva's home country, specifically in Madrid. The Pretty Woman actor revealed their family's plan to live in Spain in the foreseeable future during his interview with Vanity Fair Spain in April 2024, saying:

"It will be wonderful [for Alejandra] to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends, and her culture."

Gere also acknowledged his wife uprooting her life in Spain to be with him in the US for the past six years. He thinks it would only be fair to "give her at least another six years" living in her world. The Runaway Bride star also appears to be excited about the family's move to Spain, which would include his two young sons with Silva, Alexander and James. He added that the move would be a "great adventure," and said:

"Going to Madrid is going to be a great adventure because I have never lived full-time outside of the United States. And I think it will be very interesting for my children as well."

Richard Gere also detailed everything he loved about the country in his Vanity Fair Spain interview. He said that the Spanish lifestyle is "fabulous," and the Spanish people's "ability to live transmitting joy and happiness" is also something he admired about his wife's home country. Richard Gere also mentioned the "extraordinary" food and generous people of Spain are what he looks forward to calling the country his new home.

As for his Spanish residence, the Hollywood actor and his wife settled on an 11 million euro Madrid mansion in the exclusive La Moraleja neighborhood in the Alcobendas municipality, per Marca. It's reportedly a 10,000-square-meter property with a three-story house with luxury amenities like a heated pool and a private wine cellar.
