“She gave a great note"— Ryan Reynolds reveals how they got Madonna to license 'Like a Prayer' for Deadpool & Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds recently made an appearance on SiriusXM on July 19, 2024, and spoke to Jess Cagne about how Madonna approved her song Like a Prayer to be used in his upcoming movie, Deadpool & Wolverine.

In the episode, Ryan Reynolds shared that he, his co-star, Hugh Jackman, and the director of the movie, Shawn Levy spoke to Madonna and tried to convince her to let them use the iconic song in their film. Reynolds stated:

“It did involve a personal visit to Madonna, where we showed Madonna the sequence where ‘Like a Prayer’ would be used. Also, let’s preface it with the fact that they don’t license — that Madonna doesn’t just license the song, particularly that song.”

He continued:

“It was a big deal to ask for it and certainly a bigger deal to use it. We went over and met with her and sort of showed her how it was being used, and where, and why.”

Madonna reportedly provided them with a "great note,” as Ryan revealed:

“She gave a great note. She watched it, and I’m not kidding, [she said], ‘You need to do this.’ And d**n it, if she wasn’t like spot on.”

Madonna’s Like A Prayer was released in 1989. Being a part of her fourth studio album of the same name, the song instantly clicked with the masses and became a massive hit globally. The song topped many charts around the globe and also received many awards and nominations.

Ryan Reynolds and the entire team of Deadpool & Wolverine were on cloud nine when they first learned that the global pop star, Madonna had granted permission to use her hit number, Like a Prayer in their movie releasing on July 26, 2024.

During the interview, Ryan Reynolds also opened up to the host about how he had to ask Madonna’s team members about how to address the global icon. He joked:

“Like am I allowed to just say, ‘Madonna?’ Like, ‘Hello Madonna, I’m Ryan.’”

Ryan Reynold’s much-awaited film Deadpool & Wolverine will be released on July 26, 2024, and the excitement of the masses is visible as the trailer of the movie continues to go viral.

The movie features the Marvel characters, Deadpool and Wolverine, and is intended to be a sequel to the 2016 movie, Deadpool, and the 2018 movie, Deadpool 2. Being directed by Shawn Levy, the movie also stars Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, and Matthew Macfadyen, apart from Ryan Reynolds.
