English comedian and actor Russell Brand has called Joe Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 presidential elections and backing Kamala Harris an act of duplicity and an 'extraordinary masquerade.'

On July 21, Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 U.S. presidential elections and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his candidate of choice to face Donald Trump. This political move sparked reactions from fans and celebrities across the country.

In a post on X dated July 22, Russell Brand talked about Kamala Harris' nomination and Joe Biden's resignation. The actor stated:

"I'm increasingly open to the idea that this is some extraordinary masquerade. And as with all masquerades, you have to be open to the possibility that there's an element of duplicity and construction beneath. There's going to be a wild ride between now and November for all of us."

Russell Brand also alluded to the Trump-Biden debate on June 27, which sparked the entire topic of Joe Biden bowing out of the elections. He zeroed in on Biden's performance in the debate and accused him of not being 'cogent and coherent.'

Brand further criticized Kamala Harris' candidacy and continued:

"No claim of senility can be made [for Harris], but this is not a garrulous and easy political figure. This is someone who does not seem at ease around public speaking in particular. It's extraordinary. We're witnessing, I think, a kind of almost a contraction of time."

After his comments went viral, fans took to social media and criticized the comedian and television personality. One netizen reacted:

"Strong women worry you, don’t they, Russell?"

Some of their reactions are as follows:

"Celebrity that was huge in the early 2000s that goes on to commit a crime and fall off only to return years later as a an alt right activist," one fan commented.
"Fold yourself in half and pop yourself in the bin," another suggested.

Many others called Russell Brand an ally of Donald Trump and criticized him:

"Of course Trump sends out his foreign trolls," one person commented.
"Seriously, a washed up Z-LISTER. If Russell Bland influences in any shape or form what you think. You have much larger issues to contend with," another person criticized.
"What a surprise given all the allegations that you’re pro Trump," another X user opined.

Several others commented on Russell Brand's alleged pro-Trump moves while insinuating that he was being racist:

"Racism is not funny, Rus," one user declared.
"Remember when Brand was a cheeky chappy and reforming addict on British TV? He used to be funny, I even bought his bookywook! Of course that’s before all those allegations and the conspiracy mania… to paraphrase Tropic Thunder ‘Everyone knows you should never go full ‘Icke’…’" another commented.
"Crawl back under your rock Russell," one fan inferred.

Several celebrities, including Russell Brand, reacted to Biden bowing out of the upcoming presidential elections

Last week was a political pandemonium in the United States presidential election campaign for both the Democrats and the Republicans. On one hand, former President Donald Trump survived a fatal assassination attempt when shots were fired at him during a rally. On the other hand, President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential elections and endorsed Kamala Harris as his selected candidate.

Many Hollywood juggernauts have reacted to Joe Biden's withdrawal, praising the 81-year-old president for his decision. American singer and actress Barbara Streisand expressed her admiration for Joe Biden's accomplishments in a post on X.

“Joe Biden will go down in history as a man who accomplished significant achievements in his 4 year term. We should be grateful for his upholding of our democracy,” Streisand wrote.

Others, such as Mark Hamil, Rob Reiner, and George Takei, also congratulated Joe Biden and supported Kamala Harris in the upcoming elections. In a post on X, Mark Hamil commented that Joe Biden's accomplishments have been unmatched by any president in his lifetime and appealed to the people of the United States to get together and support the new Democrat candidate.

However, some celebrities, like Russell Brand, were critical of the political move and questioned the motives behind Biden's decision.
