Sydney Sweeney, the American actress, has shed light on the harassment she faces from paparazzi, revealing a recent incident where photographers asked for bikini pictures in exchange for leaving her house in peace. In an interview with Glamour magazine on October 3, 2024, Sweeney described how the situation escalated, risking her safety and privacy.
Sydney Sweeney explained that photographers yelled at her family members outside and recently swarmed her house in Florida.
"They said, 'If you tell her to just come outside in a bikini, I'll take pictures and then I'll leave you alone,'" shared Sweeney.
This unwarranted intrusion not only disturbed her family but also made her feel unsafe in her own home. The Euphoria star added that the photographers camped outside her property for hours, with some even hiding in kayaks in the bushes by the ocean.
"They got there at 8 a.m. and wouldn't leave until 4 p.m. I should be able to be in my home and feel comfortable and safe," Sweeney said.
Sydney Sweeney discusses privacy invasion
What bothers Sydney Sweeney the most is the invasion of her privacy and the subsequent risk to her safety when these photos are published.
"When those photos go out, then my actual safety is at risk," she emphasized.
She described how people started visiting her home after the paparazzi shared images, leading to a troubling scenario where boats would pass her house.
"I literally hear them say, 'This is Sydney Sweeney's house.' It becomes a star tour in my front yard," she said.
In the Glamour cover story, the actress also touched on the constant public scrutiny of her body, a recurring topic in her life and career. The actress acknowledged the positive side of this discourse, saying that some young fans have reached out to her, telling her that she has helped them feel more confident about their bodies.
"That means a lot to me because I really believe in empowering others and feeling powerful with your body and embracing your sexuality," Sweeney said. "And if you have boobs, great. Flaunt them."
Earlier this year, Sydney Sweeney bought a house in Florida, which, for a self-proclaimed Disney World fan, seemed like a natural move away from the Hollywood spotlight. However, the paparazzi quickly invaded her personal space despite her attempt to find solace outside the entertainment industry's hub.
The actress described how the photographers showed up at her residence and even yelled at her family to get the pictures they wanted.
Addressing the baseless speculation about her calling the paparazzi herself, Sweeney pointed out how absurd it was, given the circumstances involving her family and the invasive behavior of the photographers.
"Why would I call the paparazzi to take pictures of me at my own house when my baby cousins and family are there and I'm in my backyard? Why would I ever want that?" she stated.
Sydney Sweeney is currently working on Echo Valley, a thriller starring Julianne Moore, and is set to take on the lead role in the upcoming remake of Barbarella. She is also involved in other undisclosed projects, continuing her rising trajectory in the film industry.
