Tom Holland has battled with alcohol addiction in the past

According to The Guardian, the 28-year-old actor was drinking a lot in December 2021, and subsequently struggled with addiction. Holland revealed the details when he appeared on the podcast, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, in July last year.

Tom Holland said that he was not shy to say that he developed an addiction and added:

"I was waking up thinking about it. I was checking the clock when's it 12. It really scared me. I just was like, 'Wow, maybe I have a little bit of an alcohol thing.'"

He revealed that he fought with his addiction for two more months and was having trouble doing normal activities, including going out for dinner. The Spider-Man: Homecoming star eventually decided to avoid drinking until June 2022, which brought a big change. He addressed the same by saying:

"I could sleep better. I could handle problems better. Things that would go wrong on set that would normally set me off, I could take in my stride. I had such better mental clarity. I felt healthier, I felt fitter and I just sort of said to myself, 'Why? Why am I enslaved to this drink? Why am I so obsessed by the idea of having this drink?'"

Tom Holland stated in the conversation that the thoughts of having a drink have not returned yet and praised his friends for supporting him in the journey to be sober. He also revealed that he has discovered a replacement, including beer with electrolytes.
