"The first Spiderman to make it to the end!"- Spider-Man references fill X as Zendaya and Tom Holland's engagement reports emerge

As per a January 6 report by TMZ, Tom Holland and Zendaya, one of the most prolific celebrity couples in recent years, have reportedly gotten engaged. Though the couple has not confirmed the news, a source close to them revealed that the engagement took place during the holiday season.

The news brought forth unbridled joy to many fans and Marvel followers, with many even bringing forth Spider-man references on hearing the good news.

Perhaps this is a little ironic as most of the Spider-Man stories so far, including where Holland's version stands, saw the iconic superhero not getting his happy ending. But as the future of Holland's Peter Parker remains in the air, at least Zendaya and Tom Holland are getting their happily ever after in real life.

As both actors were part of the Marvel universe, fans did not hold back from throwing in a lot of Spider-Man references around the reports of engagement. User @relientkenny said, for instance:

"The first spiderman to make it to the end!"

Other fans had similar things to add about this.

"Not what I saw at the end of the last Spiderman…"- another user wrote on X.

"Spider-Man finally caught the one thing he couldn’t escape...commitment. Congratulations to 'em."- another user added.

"The only Spidey couple that had a happy ending...we've been praying for times like this 😭🔥"

The previous dating histories of the other two actors who played the iconic role, Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield, both of whom also dated their Spider-Man costars, Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone, respectively, played a big part in these discussions online.

Why did Zendaya and Tom Holland's engagement rumors surface?

The celebrity couple, Tom Holland and Zendaya have been dating for quite a while, and this was simply a natural progression in their relationship. The rumors began after Zendaya walked into the Golden Globes wearing an orange gown and a diamond ring, which became a wide source of discussion amongst fans and the press.

Then several publications reported that Zendaya and Tom Holland were officially engaged. The actors themselves are yet to comment on this development but as things stand, fans can soon expect to hear an official announcement.

One of the confirmations came from an undisclosed source, who told PEOPLE in a January 6 report:

"Everyone close to them knew an engagement was happening...He's always been crazy about her. He always knew she was the one. They have something very special...They will just enjoy things for now and won't rush a wedding...They are both busy with work projects."

Interestingly, the couple originally worked together in Spider-Man: Homecoming. They were captured in pictures together almost five years after this. The couple has since remained in the limelight, with many labeling them as Hollywood's "the" couple.

Now, they will both be the subject of a lot of discussions, but few will be as entertaining as the ones comparing them to Spider-Man and Mary Jane, the iconic comic book characters, who will finally have a happy ending in the real world.
