Ice Cube shared details about a fourth Friday movie, during his appearance on Cam Newton’s podcast, Funky Friday. In the podcast episode that was released on YouTube on November 23, Cube revealed that the script that he wrote for the movie was disapproved by Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema.

For those unaware, Ice Cube has written the scripts for the cult movie series and has starred in them as well. Shedding light on the contents of the original screenplay, the rapper said:

"I wrote a script where Craig and Day-Day, they had a dispensary. They had a flash mob in there and they caught one of the kids and beat his little a*s, and they end up going to jail. So they in jail ducking Deebo, they in jail ducking Damon, they in jail ducking the Joker brothers. And then they get into a rehab."

According to Cube, the studio executives believed that the backdrop being set in jail wasn't "funny." He added:

"They were like, ‘Jail’s not funny, it’s too much time in jail. How can you make jail funny?’ And I’m like, ‘Man, y’all don’t know what the f*ck y’all talking about."

The clip where the rapper shared his thoughts on the podcast garnered netizens' attention. A user wrote on X:

"Let’s not fool ourselves. The last movie wasn’t good. Just not anywhere near the same feel."

Another user tweeted:

"Craig and Day-Day are older now. The new Friday should be about their kids or something."
"Why does Cube need Hollywood to greenlight a project.. that’s crazy," wondered a netizen.
"They will say no now to steal the idea later," wrote another user.

Other netizens made remarks about the plot that Ice Cube narrated and implied that they were not big fans of it. A user wrote on X:

"Cause nobody wanna see THAT sh*t."
"That plot is not good. Plus Craig and Day Day are in their mid 50s now," added a tweet.
"That script sounds like crap," said another user.

Ice Cube revealed the primary reason that there has been no fourth Friday movie yet

While talking on the podcast, the 55-year-old rapper gave further insights as to why there has been no fourth Friday movie till now. Ice Cube blamed it on creative differences with the studio. These decisions are reportedly contractually linked to the release of any sequel in the film series.

"With a Friday movie, I don’t want no studio telling me how to do this movie. I know these characters, know this culture and everything; I know what it need to be and they don’t."

Ice Cube mentioned that the deaths of several cast members like John Witherspoon (Craig’s father Mr. Jones), Tiny Lister (Deebo), and A.J. Johnson (Ezal), also led to complications in the making of a sequel.

He also claimed that the studio did not like his idea of setting the plot for the fourth film in jail, as they believed it wouldn't be funny enough. Cube then mentioned that shows and films like Orange is The New Black and Let’s Go to Prison which are based on prison life, later came out and achieved success.

Back in July, Cube made an appearance on the Iman Amongst Men podcast and revealed that according to him, the Friday movie series was the biggest achievement in his entire career. So far, three films have been released in the franchise: Friday (1995), Next Friday (2000) and Friday After Next (2002).
