Ryan Reynolds explained that McElhenney's cameo sequence in Deadpool & Wolverine wasn't working the way they had originally wanted it to be. Co-producer of Marvel movies Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds, revealed that Rob McElhenney's cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine had to be cut in an Instagram post published on August 22, 2024.
In the caption, Ryan mentioned:
"A word on my "darling" friend, @robmcelhenney. Rob very kindly did a cameo in #DeadpoolAndWolverine which will hopefully live on in the digital extras. While editing a movie, they say you "sometimes have to kill your darlings." And with a heavy heart (and through great outside intervention) I had to kill a darling with this cameo..."
He also revealed the reason behind taking this step and said:
"The sequence wasn't working the way we'd originally constructed it."
Ryan Reynolds added that although he loved making the movie, he experienced stress and a lot of outside expectations. Ryan mentioned that he was grateful for his friend Rob to fly from London for a cameo, but it wasn't meant to be. He added:
"He shows up for people. And he showed up for me."
The movie sees a lot of other cameos, including Jennifer Garner reprising her role as Elektra, Wesley Snipes as Blade, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Blake Lively as Lady Deadpool.
