Out of the many movies that will not be eligible for the upcoming Academy Awards Best Picture due to the new guidelines, Madame Web's exclusion seems to have sparked a special debate on social media platforms. This is shortly after Sony Pictures CEO received immense backlash for trying to defend the Dakota Johnson-starrer.

The exclusion of the Sony Spider-Man spinoff was posted by several media outlets on social media platforms, leading to bizarre reactions. Many fans shared extensively sarcastic and hilarious responses to this post, with many fans pretending that Madame Web was robbed of this honor only because the Academy does not support good art.

User @mgoingtoduck summed this up, saying:

"They clearly hate art, what a shame."

Other users also added to this hilarious banter.

"No...you don't say...damn that masterpiece, how could they do this...😢😢😢"- another user said.
"Aw. What else can it be eligible for?"- another user added.
"NOOOOOO ROBBED"- another user said.
"What a shocking surprise. I can’t believe they’re gonna snub this masterpiece."- another user added.
"Why not? I thought it was flawless, it made me cry in the end and movies that do that tend to be Oscar winners"- another user said.

While fans continue to make fun of Madame Web, the movie is actually not eligible for Best Pictures for a whole different reason which is explored further in the article.

Why is Madame Web not eligible for Best Picture at the upcoming Oscars?

The primary reason that Madame Web is not eligible for the upcoming Oscars is because of new eligibility rules that require Best Picture candidates to meet several diversity and inclusivity rules. This was also the case the previous year, due to which many of the good films missed out on the Best Picture category.

Though there are 323 feature films eligible for the Oscars, the Best Picture category will be accessible to far fewer movies. Other notable films missing out on the Oscars Best Picture include Woman of the Hour, Abigail, Argylle, The Apprentice, Deadpool & Wolverine, Kinds of Kindness, Dune: Part Two, and The Fall Guy, among many others.

Apart from these, the documentaries are also not eligible for Best Picture, which is quite sad as the year saw several exceptionally good documentaries.

As for Madame Web, it will perhaps become a cult classic in the years to come as it continues to amuse viewers with its lackluster storytelling and flawed elements. With the latest addition to Sony's Spider-Man spinoff universe, Kraven the Hunter, it seems that the whole spinoff series will come to a complete end.

Madame Web is available for streaming on Netflix.
