Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans shared an update days after his home was burglarized. On Thursday, July 4, 2024, the Scary Movie star took to his Instagram to address the incident in typical Wayans fashion. He began:
"Aye, what's up people? First and foremost, I am saying thank you to all the people that checked on me, see if everything was okay. I was burglarized. I want you to know that they didn't really get much. 'Cause I don't own sh*t."
According to TMZ, citing law enforcement sources, the Wayans' property in Encino, Los Angeles, was broken into by two robbers. The incident took place around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2023. According to the publication, they entered the property through the backyard and shattered a window to gain access to the home.
They allegedly swiped a safe and ran off with several thousand dollars in cash.
"Go down the block, there's a lot of flashy n*ggas out there," jokes Marlon Wayans, advises against thieving
In his video, the comedian quipped that "the most valuable thing in (his) house was (his) house" itself.
"So unless you gonna put that sh*t on a truck and drag it away, then yeah man, you did well. But I don't own sh*t," he reiterated.
The 51-year-old actor humorously addressed the robbers, telling them he was the wrong person to rob and to save their energy as he doesn't have "anything valuable in (his) house. He added that he lived a "simple life."
Marlon Wayans explained he has a 1994 Range Rover that would need a "jumpstart" to steal because the "battery was dead." Adding that he is not "flashy," he listed that did not wear jewelry like necklaces (he does wear a heart rate monitor ring) or even keep cash. He joked:
"I am the wrong n*gga to rob. Go down the block, there's a lot of flashy n*ggas out there."
Marlon Wayans captioned the IG post, writing, "God is so Good. Everyone is fine. I’m grateful." He urged potential burglars to not waste their lives and energy "doing home invasions." He wrote:
"Robbers don’t waste your energy or your life doing home invasions, sh*t is too heavy!!! You want to carry all that bullsh*t? Throw your back out, and for what?!"
The Don't Be a Menace actor concluded his post, jokingly asking the robber to pick a better target.
According to TMZ's report, Marlon Wayans' older brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans, was home at the time of the incident. Keenen allegedly awakened because of some noise but shrugged it off and went back to bed. According to the cops, it wasn't until their staff returned to the house (at 8:00 a.m.) that they discovered the burglary.
The police are still investigating the robbery and have not released any other updates about the incident.
