Actor Glen Powell revealed his parents, Glen Powell Sr. and Cyndy Powell, have cameos in all his films. While promoting his new film Twisters on The Today Show on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, he shared that his parents made an appearance in the film. He stated:
"There’s a great sequence midway through a rodeo sequence in the movie and (my parents are) right behind Daisy Edgar-Jones and I."
The Anyone But You actor even points out the correct scene from the trailer to the host, Hoda Kotb. When Kotb questioned if they have "been in all" his films, Powell replied:
"They’ve made it in since Spy Kids 3. Yeah, literally since Spy Kids 3. I think they’ve been in every single one."
Powell's parents were also present in the crowd outside the sets of the show, holding hilarious placards and cheering for their son.
Glen Powell's parents celebrated their 40th anniversary last November
Glen Powell was born and raised in Austin, Texas, where the actor recently relocated to live closer to his family. Glen has an older sister, Lauren Powell Whatton, and a younger sister, Leslie Powell.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter for its May 2024 cover story featuring the actor, the family remains involved in each other's lives. Either Powell's parents or two sisters always visit sets of every project he has worked on. His mother Cyndy said to the publication:
"I know we’re probably in his way sometimes, but you wouldn’t know it because he makes everyone feel loved and taken care of."
According to Glen Powell's Instagram post from last November, his father proposed to Cyndy at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. Celebrating their 40th anniversary, Powell Sr. reenacted the proposal. While Glen wrote in the caption:
"lucky to have your love in my life every day."
In December 2023, during his interview with Entertainment Weekly, Glen Powell stated that his parents made a cameo in Anyone But You (2023). They appear as airplane passengers on a flight to Australia, which Glen and co-star Sydney Sweeny take in the rom-com.
The scene involves Sweey's character trying to get her shirt out of the seat but ends up slipping and falling on Powell's character multiple times. Meanwhile, Powell Sr., the co-passenger, remains asleep. Talking about the moment, the Hit Man actor joked:
"The funniest part about that scene in general is that my dad's the real method actor. He's stone-cold asleep."
Cyndy, a fellow passenger sitting across the aisle, got a speaking part. The 35-year-old actor continued:
"My mom is across the aisle and gets the "I'll have what she's having" When Harry Met Sally moment. She gets an iconic look in that scene. She came in and killed it. I was very proud of both of them in that scene."
Twisters is the standalone sequel to the 1996 disaster film Twister. It stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell in the lead, along with Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, and Sasha Lane. The movie is set to premiere in the United States this Friday.
