Shortly after ending his stint as DC's Aquaman, Jason Momoa is back in the new DCU as a whole new character. Per reports, the veteran actor has been confirmed for the role of Lobo in the upcoming DCU movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

While Jason Momoa has an impressive resume, is a DC fan-favorite, and has previously expressed his desire to play the interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, it seems this casting gimmick has raised a few eyebrows all around. This response is primarily because he was already widely renowned and loved as Aquaman, a role he would not play anymore in the rebooted DC universe.

X user @BryceStorbakken summed up the online discussions about this casting, saying:

"Gonna be honest, I know I'm probably in the vast minority but I think this casting is obnoxious."

The comments on this post about Jason Momoa's casting suggested the user is not in the vast minority, as many would rather see someone else in the role.

"No one wanted this" another user said.
"He was already Aqua Man. / Is there nobody else who could play Lobo? / Whats the Rock doing now?" another user said.

However, plenty of users were also more than happy with Jason Momoa playing this iconic DC role.

"Not a big fan of Jason Momoa, but this I can see him pulling off! #LOBO" another user noted.
"The role he was born to play!" another user noted.
"If James Gunn is involved, I'm totally down 👌" another user added.

Even though some fans are divided, Jason Momoa may be able to play this role with conviction, especially since the actor has wanted to play this role for so long.

Jason Momoa was always interested in playing Lobo in DC

Even before this confirmation of Momoa portraying the role came, the Game of Thrones star had expressed his desire to play the role of Lobo. He expressed his desire to play the role in a 2023 interview with Fandango, where the actor said:

"So, Lobo was… I collect comics, and I don't do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I'm like, 'Hello? It's the perfect role,'... I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it's a f*ck yeah. I haven't received that call, so I don't want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask to play, or ask me to audition, I'm there."

As the news of the casting was announced, Momoa referred to this interview in a new Instagram post and wrote in the caption:

"They called."

While Momoa's profile fits perfectly for the role, it is yet to be seen whether he will live up to it.
