American actor Channing Tatum recently sparked an online debate after revealing his unconventional solution to avoiding laundry: buying new clothes for an entire year. In a GQ video published on August 26, 2024, the Blink Twice star confessed to his dislike of doing laundry, which led him to purchase brand-new white T-shirts from 1999 to 2000. The 44-year-old star expressed,

"I hate doing laundry. Like, I hate it more than I can possibly say."

In the GQ video, 10 Things Channing Tatum Can’t Live Without, the actor told his so-called 'Year of the Fresh White T,' which probably meant that he did not wash his white t-shirts, but simply bought new ones every time. He explained,

"I had a year I called 'The Year of the Fresh White T,' and I don't think I did laundry all year that year. I just wore white T-shirts that I just bought."

The actor noted that he would evaluate how many weeks he could get out of each shirt before discarding it, adding,

"I can get like two wears out of this a week. This is gonna be good."

Reddit threads discussing Tatum's laundry confession quickly filled with reactions ranging from amusement to criticism. Many users expressed disbelief at the actor's approach,

with one commenting,"That is so wasteful and lazy. Yet we average folk are expected to use paper straws. The laws don’t exist for the rich."

Channing Tatum's "Year of the Fresh White T"

In the interview with Jonah Hill for VMan magazine in 2022, he similarly talked about the same habit. The actor admitted that his Southern origin affected his style and said that white T-shirts were not uncommon in his wardrobe before he became a teenage model. He said,

"I grew up in the South, and you don't wear anything but like, white T-shirts and chains everywhere."

He also highlighted that after he came to New York, which is surrounded by the world of high fashion, he changed his clothing style, as a result.

"I’ve always gravitated to a tattered, old white shirt. It’s just a classic thing."

Despite his disdain for laundry, Tatum’s fashion preferences aren’t entirely low-maintenance. Channing Tatum admitted to owning high-end pieces, although he has a longstanding affection for affordable staples like Hanes T-shirts and Dickies pants.

Channing Tatum mentioned, adding that he still wears Dickies and Carhartts, including a pair he’s owned since his teenage years.

"You can wear them in a disaster situation or you can wear them painting with your daughter in the backyard," Tatum said, “They’re just infallible in my opinion.”

But Channing Tatum’s confession did not go well with audience members. Many Reddit threads are filled with such comments of surprise and disapproval. Some of the users criticized the act as ‘waste ’ and ‘useless’, with emphasis on environmental effects.
