The final trailer for Venom: The Last Dance was released on September 12, by Sony Pictures Entertainment. The final film in Tom Hardy's Venom franchise is a part of Sony's Marvel universe of Spider-Man characters.
The trailer introduced Knull, a major villain from Marvel comics who also happens to be the God of Symbiotes, and it looks like he will be one of the villains in the film.
While it's unknown who will be playing Knull in Venom: The Last Dance, the trailer gives us a brief glimpse at him sitting on his throne in the symbiote world. Alongside that, the trailer also teases more symbiotes alongside a Xenophage as well, that Venom can be seen fighting on the top of a plane.
The trailer for Venom: The Last Dance also provides glimpses at other creatures that Venom might take over including a fish and a horse. It also showcases new looks at characters played by Stephen Graham, Juno Temple, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rhys Ifans, and more.
It looks like the film will focus on both, Eddie and Venom, being hunted by both of their worlds. Directed by Kelly Marcel, Venom: The Last Dance is set to open in theatres on October 25, 2024.
Exploring Knull's comic book storyline
In the comics, Knull was created by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman and first appeared in Thor: God of Thunder #6 (March 2013) and made a fill appearance in Venom (Vol. 4) #3 in June 2018.
He is the creator of the symbiotes in the Marvel Universe and is an eldritch god of darkness as well. He has extremely deep connections to the Marvel lore as well and used to wield the Necrosword too.
He resides between the sixth and seventh cosmoses and was awakened when his kingdom was invaded by the Celestials who wished to make him the King in the Black. However, Knull refused the opportunity and decapitated one of the Celestials with his Necrosword, which was one of the first symbiotes as well. He then waged his war against the light and became a figure of divine terror.
However, he found himself stranded on an unknown planet when his Necrosword was stolen. This further led him to experiment with his own powers, and how he could bond with lesser creatures that he wanted to control.
In the comics, he is also referred to as the god of symbiotes, and judging by Venom: The Last Dance's trailer, it looks like the film will see him again waging his war on Light as well, by trying to take over Earth.
What is Venom: The Last Dance about?
The upcoming third Venom film will be a sequel to the original Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. As per Sony Pictures Entertainment, the film will follow Venom and Eddie Brock as they are hunted by forces from both of their worlds, and it will also be the final Venom film.
"Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie's last dance."
The film will see Tom Hardy return as Eddie Brock and the titular symbiote after last being seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
