Actors Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman recently opened up about their long-term friendship in an interview with People Magazine. The cover story for the May 31 edition features both stars together in People's first-ever collectible side-by-side covers.
Talking about their friendship, Reynolds stated:
“We rely on each other for the real kind of advice that you want.”
Reynolds further added:
“I think the secret sauce to a long-lasting Hollywood friendship is not too dissimilar to having a partner or a marriage. I am genuinely rooting for you, all the time. I want you to win.”
The third installment of Reynolds' Deadpool movie, which will release on July 26, marks the culmination of their 17-year friendship. This is also the second project that reunites Deadpool and Wolverine since they first met on the set of Jackman's X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Ryan Reynolds appeared as Deadpool for the first time in the movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Deadpool & Wolverine co-stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman discussed their 17-year friendship in the most recent issue of People, which will be available on May 31.
Jackman met Ryan Reynolds not long before Reynolds made his MCU debut as Deadpool in the 2008 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. According to Reynolds, Jackman greeted him with wide arms, and the two haven't been apart since.
Talking about the same, Reynolds remembered:
“I was nervous as hell. I was walking through the trailers, jet-lagged, disoriented, feeling really green and kind of out of my depth…And I heard my name, ‘Ryan!’ in between these trailers as I was walking. And it was you. Just the fact that you knew my name meant so much to me. And you came over, you gave me a big hug and you said, ‘Welcome aboard.’”
Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, Deadpool made his debut in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Deadpool, or Wade Wilson, served in Team X, a black ops unit directed by William Stryker, during the Vietnam War in the middle of 1973. Logan and Victor Creed were also on the squad. His task was to execute people.
Ryan Reynolds's character was an extremely proficient, cunning, and callous mercenary. Later, although Victor Creed was said to have killed him, it was eventually discovered that Major Stryker changed him into the mutant killer, Weapon XI, who was endowed with the abilities of other mutants.
Wade served as the host body while Stryker collected the DNA from other mutants whose abilities could be combined without destroying the original body. Thus, Weapon XI, or The Mutant Killer - Deadpool was born.
However, in the final battle, Logan and his brother Victor team up to fight Deadpool and kill him.
