Candyman-famed Tony Todd died after an unspecified long illness in his Los Angeles home on Wednesday, November 6. He was aged 69.
The legendary horror actor was married to Fatima, however, he seemingly kept details about his marriage private. Fatima confirmed the news of her husband's passing to The Hollywood Reporter, on Friday, November 8. Nothing on Tony's wife could be found on his Instagram.
After debuting in the 1986 film Sleepwalk, Tony Todd got his breakthrough role as the titular killer Daniel Robitaille aka Candyman in the 1992 film Candyman. Tony's villainous ghost with the hook returned to the 1995 installment of the movie, Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh. The actor further reprised his role in the film's 2021 remake.
Tony was also noted for his role as the mortician William Bludworth in the first, second, and fifth chapters of the Final Destination movies. After news of Tony's death was announced, the film franchise's production house New Line Cinema paid a tribute to the actor on Instagram:
"The industry has lost a legend. We have lost a cherished friend. Rest in peace, Tony. -Your Final Destination Family"
The DC-born actor has 256 acting credits on IMDb from his career spanning nearly 40 years. His other noteworthy roles include Sergeant Warren in the 1986 Oscar-winning film Platoon, Ben in Night of the Living Dead (1990), Grange in Brandon Lee's The Crow (1994), Captain Darrow in Nicolas Cage-starred The Rock (1996), Eddie in Frankenstein (2015), and Harry in Hellblazers (2022).
Moreover, Tony Todd appeared in several TV series, including The Flash, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, 21 Jump Street, Beverly Hills 90210, Night Court, The X Files, Matlock, Law & Order, Psych, Dead of Summer, and Scream to name a few.
Tony also worked as a voice actor for a few video games including Call of Duty. He was also the voice of Venom in Toby Maguire's Spider-Man 2.

Tony Todd was the father to his two children — Alexander and Ariana. Although their ages are not specified, according to one of Tony's Instagram posts from January 10, 2021, Ariana is now 33 years old. In the post, the actor wished his daughter a happy 30th birthday. Another post from January 29, 2022, showed Ariana's engagement with her fiancé, Shawn.
Meanwhile, Tony Todd’s son Alexander’s age is not known. However, the actor posted about his son on June 26, 2020, detailing Alex was admitted to USC Medical. Tony said the hospital had called him the day after Father’s Day. He revealed Alex had been suffering from bipolar disorder for years. Tony wrote:
"What kind of system is it where parental power is lost once a child turns 21. They have to decide. They have to be willing to ask for help. Stay on medication. I LOVE Alex so much. My heart hurts. Couldn't even visit him because of corvid protocols. Offered full range of services but decided on the freedom of the streets."
Apart from his wife and kids, Tony is also survived by his sister Monique Dupree.
