Nicolas Cage's oldest son, Weston Cage, was arrested on Wednesday, July 10, for physically assaulting his mother, Christina Fulton, during an alleged mental health crisis.
The 33-year-old actor and producer was taken into police custody for "assault with a deadly weapon" weeks after Fulton was seen with various bruises on her face. The Sun quoted the spokesperson for the LAPD, saying:
"I can confirm that Weston Cage Coppola was arrested today for assault with a deadly weapon. He was arrested by LAPD's 77th Division."
Weston was booked around 7 am on Wednesday, according to records at the Los Angeles County Sherrif's office. It remains unclear why it took so long for the authorities to take action over the incident.
He was released on a $150,000 bail around 10 am the same day, with Nicolas Cage reporting paying the sum to get him out.
Weston Cage was accused of beating his mother in April
The son of the National Treasure actor was initially a suspect in a battery report on April 28 after he assaulted his mother, an incident that happened at Fulton's Los Angeles home. However, he wasn't arrested at the time but reports came out that there was allegedly a verbal altercation that turned physical.
The Snake Eyes actress refuted the claims, sharing an official statement with People in May saying that she and Weston didn't argue before the assault incident happened. She said:
"Contrary to their claims, Weston and I had no argument prior to the incident."
She noted that a few of Weston Cage's friends have reached out to her for help because he was experiencing a mental health episode. Fulton noted:
"On Sunday, April 28th, I was reached out to by several of Weston's best friends for assistance because they were experiencing Weston in a mental-health crisis."
Recalling the event, the actress said that she "acted swiftly to ensure his safety." She further noted:
"Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental-health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience."
Christina Fulton didn't speak of any details about what happened with her and Weston Cage during the reported incident. It was also unclear if any injuries were sustained from the incident, but the actress was later photographed with red and yellow bruising under her left eye, among other spots of discoloration covering her face.
It's not the first time that Weston Cage has had a run-in with the law. The oldest son of The Carpenter's Son actor was previously arrested for DUI and a hit-and-run in 2017. He also faced domestic violence charges after an altercation with his ex-wife, Nikki Williams, turned physical in 2011.
With that said, Weston Cage also has a history of mental health struggles. The Longlegs actor's son was hospitalized on a psychiatric hold in 2011 after he lost his temper with his trainer.
