FRIENDS alum Jennifer Aniston called out Senator J.D. Vance for his past comments about women who haven't given birth. The actress took to her Instagram stories on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, to slam Vance for his statement in 2021. During an appearance on Tucker Carlson's Fox News show, Vance called Kamala Harris and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez "childless cat ladies.
"I truly can't believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States. All I can say is... Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear childern of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too," Aniston wrote on Instagram.
The Murder Mystery star also shared an X post by @PonFilipkowski, featuring the July 2021 interview of Vance. In the interview, Vance questioned the leadership of women like Vice President Kamala Harris and US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who have not given birth. He went on to call them "childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives," adding that they have no stake in the country's future.
Jennifer Aniston has previously spoken about her struggles with IVF
J.D. Vance's statements resurfaced after President Joe Biden stepped out of the presidential race and endorsed Kamala Harris in his place. In 2021, J.D. Vance spoke to Fox News' Tucker Carlson during the former's bid for the Senate in Ohio. At the time, he wondered how it made sense that the country was turned over to people who "don't really have a direct stake in it."
He also claimed that the "future of the Democrats" was "controlled by people without children, referring to Harris, Ocasio-Cortez, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
"The entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. And how does it make any sense that we've turned our country over to people who don't really have a direct stake in it?" Vance said.
Vance, who is Donald Trump's running partner, also said that the US was "effectively" run by "a bunch of childless cat ladies" who were miserable in their lives and their choices.
"We're effectively run in this country... by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable in their own lives and the choices that they've made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too," Vance claimed.
It is worth noting that Vice President Harris has two stepkids from her husband's first marriage. Her husband, Doug Emhoff, had two children, Cole, 29, and Ella, 25, with his ex-wife, Kerstin Emhoff.
Meanwhile, J.D. Vance has three children with his wife, Usha, Ewan, 6, Vivek, 4, and Mirabel, 2.
Jennifer Aniston called out Senator J.D. Vance for his comments on women who haven't given birth in her Instagram stories. However, this isn't the first time the actress has spoken about pregnancy and childbirth. Throughout her career, Jennifer Aniston has been plagued with rumors about her pregnancy.
In a November 2022 interview with Allure, the actress explained that trying to get pregnant was challenging for her. She spoke about how tough it was for her, adding that she was "throwing everything at it."
"All the years and years and years of speculation... It was really hard. I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it. I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, 'Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.' You just don't think it," Aniston said.
When she divorced her ex-husband Brad Pitt in 2005, many speculated it was because she chose her career over having children. In her interview, Aniston squashed the rumors, calling them "absolute lies."
In 2016, Jennifer Aniston penned an essay for the Huffington Post, calling out the press for perpetuating gossip. She criticized the media for scrutinizing women's bodies, objectifying them, and defining their "value based on (their) marital and maternal status."
"We are complete with or without a mate, with or without a child. We get to decide for ourselves what is beautiful when it comes to our bodies, Jennifer Aniston wrote.
Jennifer Aniston has spoken extensively about the period when she was trying to have a baby and how that affected her at the time.
Other celebrities, like Liz Vassey, put J.D. Vance on blast for his comments. Vance, meanwhile, has not publicly reacted to the backlash.
