On November 27, Eddie Murphy's son Eric and Martin Lawrence's daughter Jasmin got engaged after more than three years of going public with their relationship. The two announced the news of their engagement on their respective Instagram pages on December 1.

According to their Instagram post, Eric Murphy and Jasmin Lawrence got engaged in a room with an assortment of candles, white roses, and a big heart in the middle. Getting down on one knee, Eric proposed to Jasmin and the two shared a kiss afterward.

"11.27.2024 We’re engaged!! God truly blessed us with a love that feels like destiny. We couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter. Special thank you to everyone who made this moment so beautiful!!" wrote Jasmin on Instagram.

The newly engaged couple first announced their relationship in June 2021, subsequently, Jasmine made it official as she wished Eric a happy birthday on Instagram.

"Happy birthday, my love! I’m so incredibly blessed to know you, to love you, and to have you by my side. Cheers to many more blessings, laughs, and beautiful memories! I love you so much!!" she captioned.

Comedy titans Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy first came together over thirty years ago when they appeared in the romantic comedy Boomerang (1992). They appeared together again in 1999's Life and Eddie Murphy recently teased that the two may reunite for the remake of It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World.

After Jasmin and Eric announced their relationship in June 2021, fans started believing that the two had met each other because of the friendship shared by their fathers. Eric and Jasmin cleared the air in a January 2022 interview with In Touch Weekly. According to them, the couple met through Jasmin's uncle. She also said:

"It wasn't even our dads, and they've done two movies together, they're friends, I and Eric became really good friends because we bonded on a lot of things obviously we have similar backgrounds so we understood each other on a certain level. And over time, it just, you know, became more [...] Our families are absolutely supportive of their relationship.”

Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence have referenced the relationship between their respective children several times in the past. In 2022, Martin Lawrence quipped about Eric and Jasmin's future wedding in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The comedian joked that he would try to get Eddie Murphy to pay for the wedding.

In a 2024 appearance on CBS Mornings, Eddie Murphy joked about the relationship, saying:

"They're both beautiful, they look amazing together — and it's funny, everybody’s like, 'What is that baby gonna be funny? Our gene pool is gonna make this funny baby."

When asked about his and Martin Lawrence's reaction when they found out about their children's relationship, he said:

"We just was like, 'It's cool.' Yeah, it was cool. We thought it was cool. If they ever get married and have a child, I am expecting the child to be funny."

Jasmin, whose mother is Patricia Southall, is the eldest of Martin Lawrence's three daughters. Eric, on the other hand, has a total of ten siblings and step-siblings. Eddie Murphy shares them with his former partners Paulette McNeely, Tamara Hood, Nicole Mitchell, and Mel B. Eric is the son of Paulette McNeely.
