Actress Halle Berry and her ex-husband Oliver Martinez have agreed to attend co-parenting therapy sessions for their son Maceo. Per court documents, the former couple has to "participate in co-parenting therapy/coaching with Dr. Jaye-Jo Portanova" on Thursday, May 29, 2024.

The actress and French actor Oliver Martinez began dating in 2010 after meeting on the sets of Dark Tide. They were engaged in 2012 and married in France on July 13, 2013. The couple shares a 10-year-old son, Maceo.

The couple filed for divorce in October 2015, two years after their marriage, citing "irreconcilable differences."

They released a joint statement at the time:

"It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce. We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for our son."

While the couple's divorce was finalized in December 2016, it would take almost seven years more for them to hash out a custody agreement that included Berry paying $8,000 a month in child support and "4.3% of any income she receives above $2,000,000" in additional support.

Halle Berry also has to pay for Maceo's private school tuition, his uniform and supplies, and any extracurricular activity he gets involved in.

As per Entertainment Tonight, citing court documents, Dr. Jaye-Jo Portanova will help the former couple learn to "resolve disputes and conflicts between in an effort to successfully co-parent... in a manner that promotes Maceo's best interests."

The document details a plan that includes both Halle Berry and Oliver Martinez having individual and joint sessions. Both are to participate in "no less than six" joint coaching sessions. The former couple will split the cost of the sessions.

"Following the parties' sixth co-parenting therapy/coaching session with Dr. Portanova, the parties' counsel and Dr. Portanova shall participate in a conference during which time Dr. Portanova will make a recommendation as to whether the parties should continue co-parenting therapy/coaching."

Halle Berry was previously married to the American professional footballer David Justice and later R&B singer Eric Benet. She dated Canadian model Gabriel Aubry (from 2005 to 2010), with whom she shares a daughter, Nahla Ariela. Following her divorce from Martinez, Berry is dating musician Van Hunt.

In a 2021 interview with Woman's Health, Halle Berry credited Hunt for influencing her role as a mother.

"I just feel fulfilled. I feel happy in my life romantically, as a mother, as an artist. I'm a much better mother in this circumstance than I would have been had I stayed in a romantic relationship that didn't serve me and didn't make me feel the way I need to feel as a woman."

The court document also stated that Berry's current partner can attend the therapy sessions with her "subject to Dr. Portanova's recommendation and approval."

Halle Berry and Oliver Martinez have not released a statement about the development as of writing this article.
