American actor and filmmaker, Shia LaBeouf was sued by his former partner, FKA Twigs, in 2020. The trial is set to be held in October 2024, but the British singer-songwriter's attorneys filed documents in an LA Superior Court on Monday, June 24, 2024. The documents claimed that the actor's attorneys are "improperly seeking" FKA Twigs' private medical and financial information.

In her 2020 lawsuit, the singer claimed that she had suffered $10 million in damages while she was with LaBeouf. FKA Twigs and Shia LaBeouf began dating in September 2018 but ended their relationship sometime in 2019. They first met on the set of the film Honey Boy, when Shia was separated from his wife, Mia Goth.

The singer alleged that LaBeouf was emotionally manipulative and abusive towards her when they were in a relationship. In her 2020 lawsuit, FKA Twigs called the actor "dangerous" and alleged that he had cheated on her. The lawsuit is still ongoing, with a trial set for October 2024.

Details about the FKA Twigs case against Shia LaBeouf

FKA Twigs sued Shia LaBeouf in December 2020, alleging that he s*xually and physically assaulted her during their nearly one-year relationship. New court documents were added to the case in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, June 24, 2024. These suggested that LaBeouf's attorneys were seeking private information about FKA Twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett.

Her lawyers also argued that Shia LaBeouf's attorneys have asked for private financial and medical information that "has no bearing on the issues in this case." They added that she had already submitted medical reports of a psychotherapy exam and provided more than 1,300 pages of documents to the court in preparation for the trial.

In a 2020 interview with the New York Times, Shia LaBeouf addressed his past behavior but didn't specify any details on the case. In emails with the publication, he said that he was in no position "to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel."

"I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel. I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say,” the actor added.

FKA Twigs also accused Shia LaBeouf of failing to turn over all text messages sent to third parties that were about her. However, the actor has countered that he has submitted all messages.

FKA Twigs has since requested an expert to inspect his devices to ensure no additional messages. Additionally, the conversations between the two have not been turned over, as Shia LaBeouf claimed they were deleted before the case started.

The actor's attorneys also mentioned their disagreements with $10 million damages, stating that FKA refused to turn over some documents related to her finances. They added that the singer's "work schedule, contracts, and economic success" directly conflicted with someone "supposedly traumatized by Shia's alleged actions.

"[FKA] cannot place her financial condition in issue and further make claims about her emotional distress and then withhold the information that Shia requires to challenge it," the actor's attorneys noted.

The British singer has previously stated that she intends to donate a significant portion of any monetary damages to domestic violence charities.
