Tyrese Gibson is trending on social media after he recalled the time he worked with Ving Rhames in the 2001 film Baby Boy. The F9 star shared the details during his appearance on the podcast Million Dollaz Worth of Game on August 24, 2024.
Gibson grabbed the public's attention when he opened up about his discomfort around Ving Rhames and explained why he does not like him. Gibson said:
"I was not acting in Baby Boy. That n***a Ving Rhames definitely triggered the s**t out of me. I don't like the n***a to this day."
Tyrese Gibson said that although he still gets to meet Rhames on different occasions, he behaves differently in front of the Piranha 3D star. Gibson continued:
"I don't give the f**k where we at, what clothes we got on, what we doing, what event – it could be the Golden Globes – I see that n***a across the room I be like, 'Man, f**k that n***a back there."
During the conversation, Tyrese Gibson stated that his character, Jody Summers, was somewhat inspired by his life. The reason for this was Ving Rhames, whose character Melvin was dating Summers' mother, Juanita, which contributed to bringing realism to the film. The drama film also featured Snoop Dogg, Taraji P. Henson, and others.
Netizens took to the comments section of The Neighborhood Talk's Instagram post to share their reactions, with many praising Gibson, saying that he appeared similar and his looks have not changed yet. A few others were also seen recalling the choking scene featuring Gibson and Rhames.
