Popular actor James Earl Jones tragically passed away on September 9, 2024, at the age of 93. James’ representative confirmed the news of his passing and stated that the actor was surrounded by his family members when he breathed his last at his home.
While no cause of death has been revealed by the family, Reuters reported that Jones was suffering from diabetes and many health-related health concerns for a long time. On the other hand, the family has not yet revealed details about his health and death, however, the actor’s demise took place eight years after the death of his second wife, Cecilia Hart.
James Earl Jones married the actress in 1982. During their marriage, they also welcomed a son, Flynn. However, Hart passed away in 2016 after battling ovarian cancer for many years. Before tying the knot with Cecilia Hart, James was married to the actress and singer Julienne Marie. The former couple married in 1968, after dating for 4 years, and later separated in 1972.
James Earl Jones is now survived by his son, Flynn Earl Jones, as he is the only son of the actor since James and Julienne did not have any kids when they were married.

James Earl Jones, born in 1931, was best known for voting Darth Vader in Star Wars movies and TV shows, as the actor had won many awards and nominations for his roles. The duo, James Earl and Cecilia Hart met for the first time on the set of a short-lived TV show, Paris in 1979 and the endeavour was the couple's first joint venture, later in 1982, they co-starred in a production of Othello. That same year the couple got married, after dating for three whole years.
James often talked about his wife, and how she had impacted his life. In a 2012 interview with The New York Times, James mentioned how his wife always kept him “grounded.” Not just this, James also talked about Cecilia in his 1993 memoir, Voices and Silences, where he said:
“She made me laugh. She was stimulating. And she did not seem to take me seriously at all, which meant I could relax and be myself with her.”
Furthermore, as per a 2020 feature by The Athletic on James about his role in the 1989 film, Field of Dreams, Jones mentioned that it was his wife who urged him to sign the film after she had read the role.
On the other hand, James’ fans and followers are curious to know what caused his demise. However, it is a known fact that the actor has been suffering from type 2 diabetes for a long time. He even spoke about it in an interview with Good Housekeeping in 2016, where he spoke about sleeping while exercising in the gym. At the time, James Earl Jones revealed:
"I didn't notice any symptoms. I had gone to a diet and exercise program hoping to lose some weight and ended up falling asleep sitting on a bench in the gymnasium. My doctor, who happened to be there, said that's not normal. He encouraged me to go get a test, and I did — and there it was: type 2 diabetes. It hit me like a thunderbolt."
James was best known for his movies Rogue One, Field of Dreams, The Hunt for Red October, The Great White Hope, and many other films. Apart from this, he was also known for his Broadway performances as he was seen in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Driving Miss Daisy, You Can’t Take It With You and even The Gin Game.
