The famous Australian children's show Bluey is making its way to the big screen. The Bluey movie, set to be released in 2027, has already sparked interest among fans and parents. The original animated series is popular for its pleasant stories and relatable family relationships. The upcoming film promises to deliver the same charm and wit, but on a larger scale.

Walt Disney Company and BBC Studios officially announced the movie on December 17, 2024. In this film, David McCormack and Melanie Zanetti will reprise their roles as Bandit and Chilli Heeler, respectively, while the voices of Bluey and Bingo are yet to be confirmed.

Bluey movie voice cast and characters

Bandit Heeler (Voiced by David McCormack)

David McCormack, who has lent his voice to Bluey’s dad, Bandit, in the original series, returns for the movie. His portrayal of Bandit has been praised for its humor and authenticity.

Chilli Heeler (Voiced by Melanie Zanetti)

Melanie Zanetti, the voice of Chilli Heeler, will also reprise her role. Chilli’s character continues to be a central figure in the family dynamic.

Bluey and Bingo (Voices TBA)

In the animated series, the titular character is voiced by a young actor whose identity has been kept private to protect their anonymity, while Bingo is voiced by one of the daughters of a crew member.

As Joe Brumm mentioned in an interview with BountyParents on September 14, 2023:

"The decision to keep the voice actors anonymous allows the magic of Bluey to remain focused on the storytelling rather than the performers."

Melanie Zanetti, the voice of Chilli, echoed this sentiment in an interview with Kidspot on November 23, 2022:

"All the children on the show are members of the family of people in production. I am so glad that the creatives on the show decided that no one would be in the credits to protect the young cast."

It remains uncertain if this tradition will continue for the movie or new actors will take over the roles, leaving fans eager for more details. While the series has featured guest appearances from celebrities like Natalie Portman and Rose Byrne, there's no confirmed information about similar cameos in the film.

Production Insights

In a letter released on the series official website on December 18, 2024, creator Joe Brumm announced that he is taking a break from his involvement in the TV series.

He stated:

"I always said I wouldn’t keep making the show if I thought I couldn’t make any new season as good as the last. This would have been the case for me with a potential season four, so I’ve decided to take a break from my involvement in the TV series."

Brumm clarified that this does not mean the show is ending but emphasized his full focus is now on the feature film.

The CG-animated movie will be produced by Amber Naismith known for Happy Feet and The Lego Movie, co-directed by Richard Jeffery (Bluey series 1-3). Joe Brumm will serve as the executive producer, along with Charlie Aspinwall and Daley Pearson from Ludo Studio, and Justine Flynn for BBC Studios.

Disney’s involvement will be overseen by David Greenbaum, president of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios. Returning to compose the film’s music is Joff Bush, who has been instrumental in creating the series’ distinctive soundtrack.
