Will Smith had taken a bit of a break from acting after the unfortunate event that occurred during the 94th Academy Awards ceremony. After slapping Chris Rock due to a joke about Smith’s wife Jada-Pinkett Smith, the Fresh Prince of Beverly Hills lost his calm, which brought forth humungous criticism.
Regardless, that incident seems to have been forgotten, considering the kind of success his latest release Bad Boys: Ride or Die is currently experiencing. The movie, released on June 5, has already garnered more than $215 million worldwide, and the figure is only going to balloon further in the coming time.
The actor was previously seen in 2022’s Emancipation, and the success of the fourth installment of the epic Bad Boys series has seemingly led to another positive development for his career. Will Smith has now been revealed to be a part of Sony’s upcoming sci-fi thriller, Resistor, which is based on a 2014 novel by Daniel Suarez, called Influx.
Will Smith is set to feature in Sony’s Resistor
In what is undoubtedly a smart move considering it was announced in the aftermath of the intense success Bad Boys: Ride or Die is experiencing, Will Smith is now set to be a part of a major Sony project in the form of Resistor.
The movie, which will be based on the novel mentioned above, is set to revolve around the character of physicist Jon Grady, who can come up with a device capable of manipulating gravity. Set in a futuristic world, the bestselling novel by Daniel Suarez will delve into how Grady and his team attempt to redefine physics and transform humanity’s future via their invention.
However, as it turns out, Grady is targeted by the Bureau of Technology Control (BTC), an organization which aims to maintain control over society by suppressing innovation and technological advancements. The thrilling concept will see Grady refuse to bow down to BTC’s demands, leading to his imprisonment alongside many intellectuals who suffered a similar fate.
However, Grady then plots to escape, and subsequently redefine humanity’s future by taking the help of his fellow inmates and their marvellous inventions. Resistor is set to be a collaboration between Sony and Escape Artists, with a script written by Zak Olkewicz, who has previously worked on projects such as Bullet Train, Fear Street: Part Two - 1978 and The Last Voyage of the Demeter.
Furthermore, the movie will see a production team which includes the likes of Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Tony Shaw, and Dave Wilson. Smith himself is set to accompany Jon Mone via Westbrook Productions as a producer, with Heather Washington also a part of the project.
Regardless, while not a lot of details, or a release date has been revealed for the upcoming project, Resistor is set to be the next step in Will Smith’s redemption, as he attempts to get his acting career back on track. Smith has been a part of some iconic movies and series throughout his career, including The Pursuit of Happyness, I Am Legend, and the Men In Black series.
However, recent years have been somewhat dry, even if he was praised extensively for his role as King Richard in 2021’s King Richard.
However, the next movie in his sprawling overall career is now set to be Sony’s Resistor, even if Will Smith already has reason to celebrate, considering Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
