The Penguin season finale made fans even more excited for Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman Part 2 (better known as The Batman - Part II officially). With the show ending on a tease of Batman as Oswald Cobb has become the new Kingpin of Gotham, fans are highly anticipated to see where the sequel will go. And it certainly looks like the corruption within Gotham is just going to get worse.

However, with The Penguin ending and The Batman Part 2 being the next project in Matt Reeves' DC cinematic slate, fans are wondering whether Colin Farrell will return as Oswald Cobb. Following the release of the finale, actor Colin Farrell sat down with The Hollywood Reporter on November 10, 2024, and confirmed that his character will be a part of The Batman Part 2.

Farrell revealed that he has around five or six scenes in the upcoming film. He also discussed exactly what next he would like to see for the character, but Farrell also said that he still hasn't seen a script for the sequel.

"There is a degree of almost delusion psychopathy present in the last scene (of The Penguin). So how is that taken up in the second film? I was told I have five or six scenes. I don’t have any hopes or any expectations. I’m really an open book, and that’s the way I get excited by shit or not," said Farrell.

While talking about Oswald Cobb and what he would like to see in The Batman Part 2, Colin Farrell also confirmed that he has signed on for a third Batman film as well.

"I signed up for three Batman films, but I didn’t know if I’d be in the second film. Matt Reeves is a brilliant writer and an extraordinary filmmaker, and what I’m most excited-slash-nervous about in the second film is not what Oz does — or what predicaments he finds himself in, or what moments of success he gets to experience — but what his voice is," said Farrell.

The Batman Part 2 is slated to be released in theatres on October 2, 2026.

How does The Penguin finale set up The Batman Part 2?

The Penguin finale lays the groundwork for The Batman Part 2 in a huge way. While Batman himself doesn't show up in the finale of the show, there are certain hints dropped in key scenes that help inform the audiences of what they can expect from the sequel. The most important setup here is that Mayor-Elect Bella Real is set to launch her anti-corruption commission.

With Gotham already having a ton of corruption in it, it certainly looks like Matt Reeves will be again exploring the city's underbelly. As for Oswald's role, with him being the new Kingpin of Gotham now, he will certainly be of interest to Batman. While the villain for the sequel still remains unknown, fans will certainly get to know more in the upcoming months.

The finale also saw the Bat Signal blazing in the sky, which only added fuel to the viewers' anticipation.

In the meantime, fans can watch The Batman (2022) on Netflix and Apple TV+.
