Zendaya paid homage to Cher in a vintage Bob Mackie gown at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony held in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 19, 2024. The Euphoria star arrived on the red carpet, held at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, in the sparkling dress from Mackie's Fall 2001 'Foreign Intrigue' collection.
The sheer golden number had a twisted halterneck with an open bodice that crisscrossed across her abdomen in golden straps. The low-rise skirt exposed her hip muscles and featured a super-high slit at the center.
She paired the hand-beaded gown with a white silk-satin trench coat. The coat, with its golden accent lines embroidered to the statement collar and cuffs, perfectly complemented the dress. The Greatest Showman star finished the look with Christian Louboutin's So Kate golden pumps, sculpted cuffs, and blush makeup.
Lastly, she channeled the music icon by parting her long tresses in the middle in Cher's signature slicked-back hairstyle. The entire ensemble was styled by the celebrity stylist, Law Roach.
Zendaya's style transformation through the years
It is not the first time that Zendaya has turned heads with her sartorial choices.
She and her longtime stylist, Law Roach, have created some of the most unforgettable fashion moments in recent memory. Roach first styled the Disney star when she was 14, for the premiere of Justin Bieber's Never Say Never in 2011.
The Hollywood A-lister has slayed in the past with her Joan of Arc-inspired look at the 2018 Met Gala. Roach was also behind the metallic Mugler suit and the brown Bottega Veneta gown she wore for the Dune: Part Two press tour in 2024.
She also looked amazing in the Thierry Mugler pencil skirt suit from the Challengers press tour.
With Law Roach by her side, Zendaya has turned into a bonafide style icon of this generation.
Cher was Bob Mackie's muse
Zendaya inducted Cher at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony by saying the following in her speech:
"Where do I even begin? Cher is not one person. Her name is just as legendary as her legacy."
Cher, dressed in all-black, entertained the star-studded guests with a lively performance of her hit single If I Could Turn Back Time.
Zendaya's decision to go with a Mackie ensemble was the perfect nod to Cher, the designer's muse since the late 1960s. He designed the star's outfits for The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour and The Cher Show. The two served some of the most memorable fashion looks in history.
Cher was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame alongside Mary J. Blige, Ozzy Osbourne, Foreigner, Dave Matthews Band, Peter Frampton, A Tribe Called Quest, and Kool & The Gang.
Additionally, the ceremony also gave posthumous recognition to Jimmy Buffett, John Mayall, MC5, Norman Whitfield, Alexis Korner, and Big Mama Thornton.
