NR.24 is a Norwegian World War II drama directed by John Andreas Andersen, maker of The Quake. The screenplay is written by Erlend Loe and Espen Lauritzen von Ibenfeldt. It premiered in Norway on October 30, 2024, releasing on Netflix worldwide on January 1, 2025.

Produced by Motion Blur Films and producers Espen Horn and Kristian Strand Sinkerud, NR.24 is the story of Gunnar Sønsteby, a central figure in the Norwegian resistance during the Nazi occupation.

A historical WWII drama dealing with the themes of courage and survival, in which a war story has been told with a biographical approach. The cast includes Sjur Vatne Brean as young Gunnar Sønsteby, Erik Hivju as the older Sønsteby, and Lisa Loven Kongsli as Gudrun Collett.

NR.24 is set to be released internationally on Netflix on January 1, 2025. It will be available for streaming exclusively on this platform for viewers worldwide. NR.24: Box office performance

According to hellonearthmetalzine.com, after its opening weekend, NR.24, the film about Gunnar “Kjakan” Sønsteby, attracted 90,000 viewers, more than double the attendance of Quisling’s Last Days, the first war film of the fall. This makes NR. 24 the best-performing Norwegian film of the year so far.

Additionally, five of Norway's ten most-watched films are homegrown, with Jul med Astrid Lindgren, a short animated film from Qvisten Animation, securing second place with over 35,000 attendees.

Elskling is in fifth place with nearly 100,000 viewers after four weeks, and Todd & Super-Stella and Pulverheksa’s Magical Christmas are in ninth and tenth place, with 18,000 and 5,000 viewers, respectively. Despite strong competition, it is predicted to become the top-grossing Norwegian film of the year.

The official synopsis of the movie on IMDb reads:

"Young apprentice Gunnar Sønsteby from Rjukan decides to resist Nazi-Germany on the day of the invasion to later become the leader of the "Oslo-gang" carrying out countless daring acts of sabotage making him Norway's greatest war hero."

The movie is based on the WWII Norwegian saboteur groups, specifically the so-called "Oslogjengen" (The Oslo Gang), led by No. 24. This group conducted operations with other famous Norwegian saboteurs, such as Max Manus, under the same network.

Max Manus, a film released in 2008, tells this story from his perspective. The movie is a retelling of this important part of the history of Norway.
