Kevin Conroy's final performance as Batman dropped as Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3 was released digitally on July 16, 2024. This is meant to be Conroy's final performance as the Caped Crusader after the actor sadly passed away in 2022. With the film's release, the final clip of him as the superhero also hit the internet.
In the clip, Kevin Conroy's Batman can be seen fighting the Joker (Mark Hamill) atop a skyscraper. Crisis on Infinite Earth: Part 3 takes us to the era of Batman: The Animated Series, and it features the world ending while the Dark Knight makes a final stand against his arch-nemesis in this brief scene. Conroy's final dialogue as the character is:
"I care, Joker… about Gotham… about justice. And if it has to end, at least I go out like this, being Batman."
Given that this may likely be the last we will ever hear Conroy playing the classic DC superhero, many fans thought this was a "perfect final line" for the actor. One fan on X posted:
"Perfect final line for the GOAT"
Other fans also noted how Kevin Conroy's final performance as Batman was also a callback to his debut as the character too. One fan noted:
"His last ever performance as the character being a callback to his first ever performance as the character is just perfect. We miss you Kevin"
"I can't put into words what this makes me feel because it's so powerful. One of Kevin's last recorded lines before he left us being a scene tributing TAS where it all started and a defiant proclamation that he'll be Batman until the end and nothing can take that away," said another fan.
Others also labeled Conroy as the definitive voice of Batman. One fan commented:
"There'll never be another on his level. There are plenty of good Batmen, but he was and always will be THE Batman as far as I'm concered."
"RIP to the GOAT. What a sendoff," said another fan.
While other fans were excited that Conroy's sendoff as the character was epic, others couldn't help but get emotional. One fan posted:
"I think every time I hear Conroy as Batman I'm gonna get choked up."
"What an absolutely incredible way to button this man's legacy. As this character, in that animation style, saying THAT line?? Got goosebumps. You will always be missed, Kevin Conroy," said another fan.
Kevin Conroy's legacy as Batman explored
Kevin Conroy's first time playing Batman was in Batman: The Animated Series. The voice actor then gained prominence as the character going from there, and quickly became the definitive voice for Batman in animation, where Conroy has portrayed the character in many films, and games, and even made a cameo appearance as live-action Bruce Wayne in the Arrowverse.
Playing Batman was also personally a huge deal for Conroy. The actor penned a story for DC Pride called Finding Batman. The emotional story detailed his time living as a gay man in Hollywood, and how playing the character changed his life forever.
Before reprising his role for the cameo in Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3, Kevin Conroy also voiced the character in Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League.
