Schindler's List, Steven Spielberg's unforgettable Holocaust drama, chronicles the true story of a rich German businessman who went against the Nazis to save over a thousand Jewish lives.
The war epic, which opened in movie theaters in December 1993, stars Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler, an industrialist who wants to make fortune from the ongoing World War II. Due to the onslaught on Jews, the businessman initially protects his factory workers, who are mostly Jewish. He does so to keep his factory in operation when the SS begin exterminating Jews. However, he soon becomes concerned about the welfare and safety of the larger Jewish community, going beyond his initial selfish and pragmatic reasons.
Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley, Jonathan Sagall, and Caroline Goodall, among others, form the cast of the highly acclaimed movie, written by Thomas Keneally and Steven Zaillian. The movie had bagged seven Oscars out of its twelve nominations, in 1994, during the 66th Academy Awards.
Schindler's List main cast and characters
1) Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler
The Oscar-nominated actor, who recently played Finbar Murphy in In the Land of Saints and Sinners, had played Oskar Schindler, the German protagonist and the unlikely savior of about 1,100 Jews in Schindler's List.
Liam Neeson, 72, who has over 180 projects in his filmography, has starred in action and thriller films such as The Grey, Cold Pursuit, The Marksman, and Retribution. He was also nominated for acting awards in other genres, like the horror film The Haunting and the superhero movie Batman Begins.
2) Ralph Fiennes as Amon Goeth
English actor Ralph Fiennes, who played Macbeth in the titular film of 2024, was a part of the Schindler's List cast as Amon Goeth. He is a sadistic and cruel Nazi soldier who deeply believes in the Nazi philosophy. To display his hatred, sometimes, he kills Jews from his balcony.
After appearing in the movie, the English actor's most prominent role has been in the four Harry Potter Movies, in which he played Lord Voldemort. He was also one of the four actors to play M in the James Bond movies, starring in Spectre and No Time to Die.
3) Ben Kingsley as Itzhak Stern
Kingsley, who was in Iron Man 3 as Trevor Slattery, has played Itzhak Stern, the Jewish accountant who works for Neeson's character in Schindler's List. Sometimes, he also serves as his conscience and is the first one to realize that the factory could be a safe haven for other Jews during the war.
Before Schindler's List, the England-born actor starred in Gandhi, in which he played the titular role and also won an Oscar for it. He continued his Hollywood career in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Night at the Museum 3, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

4) Caroline Goodall as Emilie Schindler
Goodall, who was Lady Radley in Dorian Gray, played Emilie Schindler, Oskar's loving and enduring wife, in Schindler's List. Emilie continues to love her husband despite his infidelity. She was instrumental in her husband's mission to help save Jews from the clutches of the Nazis.
Another veteran in Hollywood, who has worked on over 80 projects, some of Goodall's best works include Disclosure, Hook, Chasing Liberty, and Cold Courage.
5) Jonathan Sagall as Poldek Pfefferberg
Sagall, who directed the thriller Lipstikka, was cast as Poldek Pfefferberg in Schindler's List. Poldek is a Jewish smuggler who also acts as Oskar's main connection to the black market. He is a quick-thinking person who saved his life by lying and pretending to be a Nazi ally during an encounter with Amon.
The Canadian-born actor and director's other works on screen are Lemon Popsicle, Deadly Outbreak, and Urban Feel, where he also worked behind the scenes as a director and producer.

6) Embeth Davidtz as Helen Hirsch
Davidtz, who was in Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Nancy Shepherd, has played Helen Hirsch in Schindler's List, a Jewish maid who was forced to work for Amon and was subject to his torture. Her character in the war film represents the many victims who experienced physical and psychological abuse during the Nazi regime.
Another veteran in Hollywood, she has worked in both TV and film, spanning various genres. Davidtz has been seen in crime dramas like Fracture, romantic comedies like Bridget Jones's Diary, and superhero films such as the two The Amazing Spider-Man movies.
7) Malgorzata Gebel as Viktoria Klonowska
Polish actress Malgorzata Gebel, who was in ER as Dr. Bogdana Livestsky, played Viktoria Klonowska, the blonde Polish secretary working for Oskar, in the film. Also Oskar's lover, she is influential and often helps him get out of challenging situations, including the time when he was in SS prison.
The Polish actress hasn't worked on any more films, according to her IMDB page, since her stint in ER. However, she has appeared in previous projects like Judgment in Berlin, A Sense of Guilt, Murderous Decisions, and Transatlantis.
