Inspired by true events, Netflix's Sector 36 is a crime thriller that follows the disappearance of several children from a local slum in India, which leads to the unraveling of an unsettling truth.
The movie premiered at the 15th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and was released globally, exclusively on Netflix, today. Produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and Jio Studios, Sector 36 marks Aditya Nimbalkar’s directorial debut.
The movie stars Vikrant Massey and Deepak Dobriyal in the lead roles and explores themes of power, crime, and social inequality that pervade society.

1. Vikrant Massey as Prem Singh
Vikrant Massey is an Indian actor who is known for versatile roles over the years. Massey made his acting debut with the series Dhoom Machaao Dhoom (2007) and went on to work in television serials such as Dharam Veer (2008), Balika Vadhu (2009–2010) and Qubool Hai (2013).
He has also been featured in movies like Lootera (2013), Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), and Half Girlfriend (2017) in supporting roles.
Massey's first lead role was in an independent film released in 2017, A Death in the Gunj, which marked a turning point in his career. Following that, he appeared in the biographical drama Chhapaak (2020), the romantic comedy Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare (2020), and also the popular mystery thriller Haseen Dillruba (2021).
Vikrant Massey also had leading roles in the streaming series Mirzapur (2018), Broken But Beautiful (2018–2019) and Criminal Justice (2019). Recently, his portrayal of Manoj Kumar Sharma in the biographical film 12th Fail (2023) won him the hearts of fans and also a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor. In Sector 36, Massey plays the prime suspect in the case, Prem Singh.
2. Deepak Dobriyal as Inspector Ram Charan Pandey
Deepak Dobriyal is an Indian actor who is known for his works in several films and theatre productions. He has acted in Bollywood films such as Omkara (2006), Shaurya (2008), Tanu Weds Manu (2011), Dabangg 2 (2012), Chor Chor Super Chor (2013), Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), Hindi Medium (2017) and Angrezi Medium (2020).
Dobriyal is also a recipient of several awards, including a Filmfare Award and a Filmfare Award Marathi. He plays the role of a corrupt cop, Ram Charan Pandey, in the Netflix crime thriller.
Akash Khurana
Sector 36 also stars Akash Khurana as Balbir Singh Bassi. Khurana is an Indian actor, screenwriter, theatre artist, and entrepreneur who made his first screen appearance in Shyam Benegal's Kalyug.
Since then he has appeared in nearly 60 films, including Ardh Satya, Saaransh, Naam, Beta, Saudagar, Sarfarosh, Company, and Barfii.
He has also written over 20 screenplays, including Aashiqui and Baazigar, and won the Nandi Award for Special Jury for the film Dr. Ambedkar (1992).
Darshan Jariwala
Darshan Jariwala is a critically acclaimed Indian actor best known for his role in Gandhi, My Father, which won him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. He is also popular for his role as Chedilal Chaturvedi in the show Saas Bina Sasural.
Jariwala will play the role of DCP Rastogi in the series.
Currently, Jariwala is seen on Sony Set's show Sargam Ki Sadhe Satii which is the sequel to his popular show Saas Bina Sasural. He will play a supporting role in Sector 36.
Alongside the above actors, the crime thriller will also feature Baharul Islam (as Bhupen Saikia), Mahadev Singh Lakhawat (as constable Bishnoi), Ajeet Singh Palawat (as constable Pathak), Ipshita Chakraborty Singh (as Sangeeta, wife of police sub-inspector Ram Charan Pandey), Kacho Ahmad (as the compounder) and Fareed Ahmad (as Prem’s uncle).
