Plot summary
September 5 recounts the harrowing terrorist attack that took place during the 1972 Summer Olympic Games held in Munich. Black September, a Palestinian militia group, created a major geopolitical crisis after they took several members of the Israeli team hostage.
But, the focus of the film is the ABC Sports' broadcasting team, which has complete access to the hostage crisis unfolding nearby. Producer Geoff Mason takes charge of the situation and directs his team to switch from sports coverage to live news reporting. His unprecedented decision marks the first time that a terrorist attack is broadcast live in the history of media coverage.
Meanwhile, television executive Roone Arledge and operations manager Marvin Bader grapple with the weight of their actions as it can potentially lead to fatal consequences for the hostages.
