Ryan Coogler, known for directing blockbuster hits like Black Panther and Creed, is venturing into new territory with his upcoming supernatural horror film, Sinners. This highly anticipated project will see Michael B. Jordan, a frequent collaborator of Coogler's, taking on the lead role in a period vampire movie produced by Warner Bros.
The pair have a long history of successful films, from Fruitvale Station to Creed and Black Panther, making this latest collaboration particularly exciting for fans.
Warner Bros. won the rights to the film after a fierce bidding war in February 2024, a testament to the high expectations surrounding the project. Slated for release in March 2025, Sinners marks a significant departure from Coogler's previous works, offering an original story with gothic and supernatural elements set against the backdrop of the Jim Crow-era South.
What is Sinners about?
The plot of Sinners centers around twin brothers who return to their hometown only to find themselves entangled in a terrifying series of events. Set in the 1930s Jim Crow South, the film explores themes of identity, history, and horror through a period-specific lens.
While many details are still under wraps, Coogler’s unique take on the vampire genre, blending supernatural horror with historical context, is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the vampire movie landscape.
The film’s atmosphere and setting add to the suspense and tension, creating a gothic horror experience that delves into the dark and complex realities of life in the American South during that era. Jordan's portrayal of the twin is a focal point, with the actor confirming his dual role via social media by sharing a poster showing him in two distinct costumes, along with the ominous caption:
"Dance with the devil…and he’ll follow you home."
Exploring the cast list of Sinners

More details
The movie has been in development since early 2024. The film commenced on the production stage in April, with paramount tools of secrecy under the project raised title, Grilled Cheese. The majority of shooting was conducted in New Orleans, which matched the Gothic ambience of the film perfectly and was completed in July 2024.
Director of Photography Autumn Durald Arkapaw, known for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has shot Sinners in a way that fulfills Coogler's idea and does not make the viewers remain hungry for dazzling visual elements.
The studio has also structured a novel arrangement whereby, after a certain period of time, Coogler merits the ownership of the rights to the story and is in a position to influence its development in the years to come.
For the unversed, Sinners is set to come out on March 7, 2025.
