Smile 2 released in theatres across the United States on October 18, 2024, builds up on the suspense of the franchise's previous film and takes it several notches higher in the recent one.
The film follows Skye Riley, portrayed by Naomi Scott, who is a well-known pop star who faces personal struggles, including issues related to drugs and a troubled past linked to the death of her boyfriend.
Despite these challenges, she continues to pursue her music career, although she constantly encounters new problems that create obstacles for her time and again. Adding to her trauma is an event early in Smile 2 that causes the entity to become obsessed with Skye. As a result of the same, she endures unimaginable physical and mental suffering throughout the film, eventually resulting in her death.

Skye is dead by the end of Smile 2
Smile 2 reaches a conclusive end with the death of the film's main character, Skye Riley, who appears to take her own life using the microphone she was meant to perform with at her concert.
While her death is shown on screen, it is challenging to determine whether what the audience witnesses is real or simply the entity’s way of manipulating Skye and those watching her.
If Skye's death is considered a reality, then everyone who has experienced her death, including those at the concert and those viewing it through other means, could be at risk of being attacked by the entity. This aligns with the ongoing theme of the Smile series, which suggests that anyone who witnesses someone being killed by the entity becomes cursed as a result.
However, if it turns out that Skye's death did not happen at the end of Smile 2, as many speculate due to her hallucinations of important events in the film that later proved to be false, she may still be alive. In that case, the entity would need to actually kill her in real life, potentially in the next installment of the film series.

Skye's mother is seemingly still alive in Smile 2
After Skye crosses paths with the entity in Smile 2, she is sucked into a life of unimaginable horrors. What is real and what is just a figment of Skye's mind becomes a burning question in the second half of the movie, as she is more and more engulfed in the mess.
However, things hit the roof, when Skye is admitted into rehab following her erratic behavior and her mother comes to visit her. They have a heated argument following which the audiences get a glimpse of Skye's mother, who has seemingly stabbed herself to death with a shard of broken glass.
Almost immediately afterward, the audience sees Skye holding a similar bloody piece of glass, suggesting that she may indeed be the one responsible for her mother's death.
Towards the end of the film, during a scene where Skye is on stage performing, she scans the crowd and finds none other than her mother present in the audience.
What does this imply? Was her mother actually deceased before this moment, or was Skye simply hallucinating? It is also possible that she was hallucinating when she spotted her mother in the crowd. At this point, there seems to be no definitive answer to these questions, and viewers will have to wait for the next installment to find out more.
Smile 2 is currently running in theatres around the United States.
