Directed by Daniel Kokotajlo, Starve Acre is a horror film set up in 1970s Yorkshire. The movie is based on the novel by author Andrew Michael Hurley, and initially had a world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2023.

Starve Acre boasts of multiple superstars and has the following official synopsis on IMDB:

“An idyllic rural family life of a couple is thrown into turmoil when their son starts acting out of character.”

While director Daniel Kokatajlo is known for his work on Apostasy, Starve Acre did not receive the kind of response that the filmmaker might have been hoping for. It has a 6.7 IMDB rating, although the cast of the movie has done enough to stand out.

1) Matt Smith as Richard

The utterly talented Matt Smith stars in Starve Acre as Richard, the protagonist of the movie alongside Juliette. The actor has recently become a global star for House of the Dragon as Daemon Targaryen and has also been seen in multiple major series in the past.

This includes Doctor Who and the Crown, as Smith is seen playing the role of an academic archaeologist in Steve Acre. He ends up taking his wife and son alongside him in search of a legendary oak tree, which Richard believes possesses a range of powers. However, when their son is possessed by an evil spirit, things quickly take a turn.

2) Morfydd Clark as Juliette

Morfydd Clark stars alongside Matt Smith as Juliette, as she plays a frustrated wife who is seen finding solace in the community, despite the family’s major move. The beautiful actress delivers a compelling performance as she attempts to keep her family together despite knowing that her son has been taken over by evil spirits.

The actress has previously been seen in movies such as Saint Maud and Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. She has a compelling portfolio, which also includes horror movies such as Crawl and Outsiders.

Eric Richards plays the role of Harrie, one of Juliette's new friends who attempts to help the family when they face peril. The actress herself has also been seen in some major movies and TV series in the past.

The film features an unsettling tone that is bound to keep even the most bold-hearted of viewers on the edge of their seats.
