Sweethearts is an upcoming romantic comedy film directed by Jordan Weiss, who co-wrote the screenplay with Dan Brier. The film is produced by Erik Feig and Jessica Switch for New Line Cinema and Picturestart.

The film follows Jamie and Ben, played by Kiernan Shipka and Niko Hiraga, respectively. Jamie and Ben, two best friends in college, are in a long-distance relationship with their high school sweethearts. Soon, they realize that maintaining a high school romance during college is challenging, leading them to seek a breakup in the least dramatic way possible.

Apart from Shipka and Hiraga, the film stars Christine Taylor, Caleb Hearon, and Jake Bongiovi in prominent roles. Sweethearts is set to premiere on Max on November 28, 2024.

Main cast of Sweethearts

1) Kiernan Shipka as Jamie

Kiernan Shipka plays Jamie, a college freshman who realizes that her long-distance relationship with her boyfriend Simon is not working anymore, prompting her to break up with him before Thanksgiving.

Shipka started her career as a child actor in the widely popular series Mad Men as Sally Draper, Don Draper's daughter. She became a regular cast member in the fourth season of the Emmy-winning show. Later, she gained prominence for her role as Sabrina in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Her film credits include Flowers in the Attic, The Blackcoat's Daughter, Wildflower, The Silence, Totally Killer, and Twisters.

2) Nico Hiraga as Ben

Nico Higara plays Ben in Sweethearts. Ben is Jamie's sweet and shy best friend. He is also a freshman at the same college. He agrees to break up with his high school girlfriend on the same day as Jamie.

Niko appeared in a couple of short films before getting his big break in the film Skate Kitchen as Patrick. The role was well-suited for him, as the actor is also a skateboarder in real life. He appeared in two TV shows, Ballers and The Power.

3) Caleb Hearon as Palmer

Caleb Hearon plays the role of Palmer, Jamie and Ben's college mate. He also hosts the get-together before Thanksgiving, during which the duo plans to break up with their respective partners.

Hearon is a comedian and writer who performed his comedy sketches at iO Theater. He became popular online through his funny X (Twitter) videos and was later signed in Work in Progress and Fargo. His other film projects include I Used to Be Funny and Trash Mountain.

4) Jake Bongiovi as Kellan

Jake Bongiovi portrays Kellan, the handsome and athletic college jock. In the trailer for Sweethearts, viewers can see a couple of funny banter scenes between Kellan and Caleb Hearon.

Jake Bongiovi is the son of Jon Bongiovi and husband of Milly Bobby Brown. The 22-year-old actor has mostly been involved in modeling gigs in his career. He is signed with William Morris Endeavor and IMG Models. This film will be his debut as an actor.
