Technoboys is a Spanish musical-comedy film written by Alexandro Aldrete. It is co-directed by Luis Gerardo Méndez and Gerardo Gatica. The project is produced by Pablo Zimbrón and Gerardo Gatica. Furthermore, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Ximena Calvo, Alexandro Aldrete, and Gabriel Nuncio serve as the film's executive producers.

The story centers around members of a former legendary boy band named Technoboys. The group members reunite twenty years after disbanding at the height of their success. The musical-comedy is scheduled to release on Netflix on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

Luis Gerardo Méndez makes his directorial debut with Technoboys

The leading man of Technoboys, Luis Gerardo Méndez, opened up about his decision to direct the film in an interview with Netflix in February 2024. He spoke of his “desire to direct” since the beginning of his career almost 20 years ago. Luis further stated that making this project with Gerardo Gatica "has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life."

He concluded his statement with the following:

"From the moment I first read Technoboys, I knew I could tell this story and that we had the perfect team to put it on the screen.”

Plot summary

In the movie, the musical group Technoboys is a legendary Mexican boy band in the 1990s with several chart-topping hits to their credit. Twenty years after the group's disbandment, they decide to reunite in hopes of reclaiming their former glory. But, their comeback journey is anything but smooth, as they soon discover that the world of music has changed drastically from their heydays.

The band members struggle to keep up with the ever-changing world of music and find themselves facing their archrivals all over again. But Alan (Luis Gerardo Méndez), the group’s frontman, has more important things on his mind. His real motive in getting the band back together is to impress his ex-girlfriend and fellow pop star Melena (Karla Souza), who left him in the past to marry someone else.

The film stars Luis Gerardo Méndez as the protagonist, Alan, the band's frontman. Luis is a successful Mexican actor and film producer. He has starred in films like Cantinflas, and The Noble Family, which is reportedly one of Mexico's highest-grossing films. Additionally, he has also appeared in popular television shows such as Club de Cuervos (Club of Crows) and The Resort.

Other cast members in the film include Vin Ramos as Number Juan, Mónica del Carmen as Yanetin, Ari Brickman as Masiosare, Joaquín Ferreira as Leo, and Daniela Vega as Charlis. Additionally, Fernando Bonilla appears as Freddy, Gabriel Nuncio as George, Luis Rodríguez El Guana as Babyface, German Bracco as Jay, Karla Souza as Melena, and Fernanda Castillo as Coquis Topete, among others.
